I wanted to be an artist - a proper one, like monet or someone. I never met an adult that encouraged me. My teachers met with my parents to try to "deal with my doodling problem." High five, american public schools. I never wanted to be a marine biologist because nearly everyone in my class would say that. Thinking about my elementary school years, for clarification.

Once I got old enough to seriously consider it, I didn't know. Still don't know; majoring in theatre. We'll see.

You aren't a child any more, you can go back to painting if you want :)

Take this as an adult encouraging you, if you wish.

Haha, thanks! I actually do still paint and such as a hobby, still. The irony is that I often get people saying things like "oh wow you're really good, are you an artist?" "you should sell this stuff, make some good money" >< ah well....

    So what is stopping you?

What you heard .. Or didn't... As you were growing up?

You can do more than one thing (at a time) in life :)

I never thought much about it. I remember freshman high school english class we had to do a report on it, and what requirements a position had to do. I definitely did not know, I just picked dentist randomly to fulfill the requirement. I didn't care whatsoever really. Freshman year in college I still didn't know, I just picked Computer Science as I was good with computers and already knew how to program. At the time I viewed education as kind of monotonous anyway as most things came very easy for me I worked for a law firm in college and kind of liked it.
I didn't really start thinking hard about it until I was 25-26...then was flooded with all kinds of ideas such as a writer/journalist/professor/working for a not for profit, etc.

Right now I am stuck on journalist, with the long term possibility of being a professor in older age.
Basically I need something more challenging, and with that I can create my own challenges.
Most jobs I held I got bored very quickly because I found them to not be a challenge and/or took up too much of my free time.

I was mostly always a work to live type of person, but then I became more of a "I need to line up my profession with something more meaningful and which I can "become" "

This is probably about the time I started developing my F side.

Ironically, my INTJ friend is going into computer engineering (computer hardware). I am going into computer science. He says code is not nearly as interesting as making motherboards....we will see after I hide a perfectly working flight simulator in Microsoft Excel's code (actually happened btw...there was a lawsuit).

Ti/Si are both probably better for programming. INTJ in theory would be more concerned with a systems level picture ... I.E. how the network interacts with each other, how an OS interacts with a user and it's file system... and might not be so compelled to actually write the code, which I think the Ti might find quite elegant and get mad if somebody wrote it "sloppily" but still got the job done.

As an NiDom I was much more intrigued by the theory and implications of computer science, what it could accomplish, far more so than programming, which I viewed as a chore and would love to create automated tasks where I didn't have to deal with "things." Even better if somebody had already written it and I could just combine some code snippets together and get it done to move on to other goals. In another thread I was just talking about how I loved to create elaborate Visio maps. In my last job function I did this, and it was up to other people to write out the code for each step in the process. Of course I knew it would work, but actually writing that code? Such a chore and incredibly tedious to me. I would rather PAY somebody to do it and just give them the design and requirements. I often do that now when I get a freelance project and split up different aspects of the project efficiently to save time so I don't actually have to do it.

I would much rather map out ideas of something I knew could definitely work, than to actually do any coding. I love using IDE's and code completions or shortcuts, where I think a Ti user would rather just use Vim/emacs/text editor, and would be very picky about what language they preferred, and how elegant the syntax is. Software running slow? Upgrade your machine. a Ti user might want to get the very most out of some rudimentary linux box, strip down everything to the very basic processes and rewrite the entire code in C.
