    1st stage: polite, but brief.
    2nd stage: avoidance
    3rd stage: sacrcasm
4th stage: flight, pleas to be left alone, and more sarcasm
5th stage: attack mode. Acceptance that destroying the annoyance is the only solution.
This is dead on for me. I am normally polite, but when they start to get really annoying, I will usually go straight to stage 3. People close to me that should know me get stage 4 right away.

Two and three will switch positions depending on the type and degree of annoyance experienced, but that's pretty accurate for me too.

    I have three stages:

Stage 1: Someone annoys me mildly. I treat them the same as a non-annoyer.

Stage 2: Someone annoys me significantly. I avoid them physically and ignore their calls/e-mails/etc.

Stage 3: Someone doesn't get the hint: I tell them directly that they are irritating me. If they repent of their ways, they drop back to Stage 1. If they do not repent, I cut them off permanently or until substantive repentance.

I don't use sarcasm much anymore IRL in my communications, except with friends. I find almost no one grasps it, so I feel like I'm being passive-aggressive. I'd rather ignore them unless they persist, in which case I'll be direct and tell them to fuck off.

I live in stage 2. Stage 1 is a waste of time. If you find me despite my clear avoidance of you, it's straight to DEFCON 5.

Burn them, not with wit or sarcasm but with fire!

Usually, the 2nd stage gets the job done for me. I'm very good at avoiding people.

Concise. However, my stage 4 tends to be "make them cry" and I generally don't "plead". It isn't the same as Stage 5 destruction--it is more like a mini-warning that I am not nice.
