I did the exact same thing, including having more fun creating them (I still have that inclination). I recall creating a boardgame involving tanks and fighter planes on a grid. It was only many years later that I played a game like that (Advance Wars) on the Gameboy Advance.

I also waged many wars with Lego creations, got addicted to Pokemon (cards/gameboy) and I played Magic the Gathering. Watched way too many cartoons as well.

I played with a lot of toys and I took meticulous care in making sure they never were broken. I also made a lot of things for my toys, such as doll houses, clothes, accessories and such. I attribute this mostly to my parents not being able to afford to buy new toys for me when I was a child, so that when I did actually get something I took amazing care of it.

The way I played was actually very creative and rather fascinating now that I look back. Each game was extremely structured. There were plots, characters, society, culture. My older sister and I even made money to add into out games, so there was even an economy and social classes as to who was rich and poor, though it did depend on the game we played.

Favourite toys: Christy (Barbie doll), Some random red hair male doll (his legs ended up breaking off because of my brother, so I made him a wheel chair), My Little Ponies, mini Pokemon figures, Pound Puppies. (These toys were all used interchangeably with each other depending on the game. )

Power Rangers weapons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figures (and van!), roller blades, bike, skipping rope.

I don't really have much toys or books, I climbed trees and play hide and seek with my siblings and other kids.
Sometimes I like to play ''mind games'' with other kids...they never know that...I keep it all to myself...I'm so bad...

So what did I play with instead? Anything where I could build things me. Lego, Duplo, Meccano, ... Even more fun was playing strategic board games or reading non-fiction books.

My question is, is it an INTJ thing to not play with toys? I'd say it is but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
I play with toys...I still do in fact.

Call me childish I refuse to give them up. What do I play with? Mostly Lego, Erektor set, RC cars/boats/planes, perplexus maze, Rubik's cube, Nerf. I make my own fun as well like I built bow and arrows, created a golf course in my living room out of my other toys.

To say INTJs don't like to play with toy is wrong imo. Jamie Hyneman is an INTJ and I think he's a grown man working in a toy shop.

I recall collecting books. I had a pet cat. I didn't like the "typical" toys.

I would play with stuffed animals, not Barbies or other human dolls like Bratz or Polly Pockets, and my favorite thing to do was to make zoo exhibits out of the giant blocks we had (my mom ran a daycare in our house, so there were always supplies). I would make sure all the animals in an exhibit were from the same geographical region, shared the same habitat, and that there weren't predators in an exhibit with prey animals. And I fed them chunks of meat or leaves (red and green wooden blocks and play food) accordingly.

I also liked to do crafts, but it was usually a much more building-oriented endeavor than drawing or painting. I liked to make stuff. I never had Legos (too much of a liability to have tiny choke-y parts around in a daycare household), but I LOVED playing with the giant waffle blocks, wooden blocks, Tinkertoys, Lincoln Logs, and K'nex (which I only got when I was old enough to keep track of all the tiny parts).

There were tons of kids in the area I grew up in... and lots of wilderness. I used to design structures to build, and have the other kids build it.

LEGOS!!!! I built a 4 foot tall dragon... with movable joints... and teeth and whatnot after reading The Hobbit. It was a shame when I needed the parts to start building Zoids... or Gundams...

I did have toys but I don't remember how much I played with them. (I know I did, I just don't remember doing it.) And while I do love building things with blocks and the like, I mostly spent my time reading or making up stories in my head. My earliest memories are of half-remembered stories and characters I made up.

So I guess my favorite childhood toy was my imagination.
