    Unitarian Universalism ideals

Hello, I have been doing quite a lot of self discovery lately ( INTJ ) and alittle bit of looking around for a religion to call my own. I grew up with no religion and i always wanted one but just now i am doing something about it. But i need alittle help. So i been thinking about his one religion called Unitarian Universalism, is their anyone else who have heard of this and has some more knowledge on it, or do you yourself have a religion that is good.if you do please feel free to explain it to me.

Ps. sorry if my English is not all correct, that never was my best..

Well, from one of the few INTJ's who *is* religious, this is my advice/opinion. Pick the one that represent what you already do right now. Im my family, i was lucky enough to have parents that thought that religion and spirituality to be other aspects of one's self, and that my father is an atheist, my mother is christian, the eldest sister is atheist, middle one is a Dadaist and im Wiccan. Start by thinking about what you think about the world around you, and once thats done look for the one that matches it. If it does not exist, create it!

A few years ago, I wanted to find a religion that I could "get behind", so to speak. I was raised Catholic, but I've always questioned the dogma..but that's a story for another thread.

I found the website BeliefNet. They have a Belief-O-Matic quiz you can take to help match your beliefs (or lack thereof) to religions. You may want to start with the quiz and see where it takes you.

My grand advice..I've studied plenty of different religions..the best advice i ever got was agnostic. Accept what feels right and reject the rest. I enjoy reading spiritual books and Eckhart Tolle A New Earth Awakening to Your Life's Purpose..is something i love and have others read...like all things...i take in what i think feels right and reject what doesn't..no matter what it is.

Many religious people seem to consider atheism a religion. I'd give that a shot.

you grew up with no religion but you 'always wanted one'??
what, you always just wanted a random religion so you could say you had one?
i think you need to think about the reasons why you want "a religion" to call your own
what is missing in your life that you think a religion will provide
are you just lonely, do you need a social life or something to do on a sunday morning, or friday or whatever?
are you looking for an explanation as to why we are all here and what it is all about?
    are you scared of death?
for me i was brought up christian church of england went to sunday school and church on sundays, sang in the choir
i was always interested in religion(s) and what different people believe
but i guess i became progressively agnostic/curious as i got older - however still leaning towards the likelihood, on balance, that there was a god, and that jesus existed, since it was historically documented
then i learnt about the history of the writing of the bible by the romans and the setting up of the church, and also read richard dawkins book 'the god delusion'
i never looked back, he totally had me by about chapter 5 (ish)
if you havent already, read that book, and then, maybe if you still believe there might be a god, you might have a reason to find a religion - but beware, imho, they are more trouble than they are worth

Is that the christian god specifically that u believe in then? or just the general concept that 'we got here' as a direct result of being created by some greater power whom u wish to worship? like for example would u consider other non jewish/christian religions such as hinduism or buddhism? Does the religion u want also have to include jesus? If so what about islam as the fastest growing religion in the world today?
if you want to know 'how' we got here, then suggest that the bible will tell you that god created man in his own image then took one of his ribs and made woman, and called her eve and then somehow even though they only had two boys cain and abel, they went on to populate the rest of the world - does that answer all your questions?
are you looking for the answer to 'what is life all about then? what are we all doing here? what is it all for? then a religion may provide some answers to these questions, but they not be the truth, and for many people, these answers only create even more questions

most christians for example believe the following (taken from dawkins book the god delusion) in addition to the very peculiar rib/two sons populating the world theory:

    - In the time of the ancestors, a man was born to a virgin mother with no biological father being involved.
    - The same fatherless man called out to a friend called Lazarus, who had been dead long enough to stink, and Lazarus promptly came back to life.
    - The fatherless man himself came alive after being dead and buried three days.
    - 40 days later, the fatherless man went to the top of a hill and then disappeared bodily into the sky.
    - If you murmur thoughts privately in your head, the fatherless man, and his 'father' (who is also himself) will hear your thoughts and may act upon them. He is simultaneously able to hear the thoughts of everybody else in the world.
    - If you do something bad, or something good, the same fatherless man sees all, even if nobody else does. You may be rewarded or punished accordingly, including after your death.
    - The fatherless man's virgin mother never died but 'ascended' bodily into heaven.
    - Bread and wine, if blessed by a priest (who must have testicles), 'become' the body and blood of the fatherless man.

is this the sort of religion that answers all your questions?

the wikipedia page on 'Meaning of life' says of christian religion: In the Westminster Shorter Catechism, the first question is: "What is the chief end of Man?", that is, "What is Man's main purpose?". The answer is: "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and enjoy him forever". God requires one to obey the revealed moral law saying: "love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, and with all our mind; and our neighbour as ourselves". The Baltimore Catechism answers the question "Why did God make you?" by saying "God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven."

    - do you believe this??

this same wikipedia page also describes the basic aspects of other main religions and also the basic philosophies ......... perhaps a broad study of philosophy might be more useful to you
