    Computing personally.

Sorry to start two threads but as I work on these thoughts on parallel tracks they usually mature at the same time into something complete and now I had weekend for thinking so I decided to dedicate some processing time for my new forum.
    Onto the topic:

As INTJ type is a technology oriented generally, and all of the people on this forum should possess a computer or access to a public one at a regular basis I can safely bring up the following overly long question:

The lifeless slab of circuits and components from optical drives to graphics processing units to an INTJ is perhaps closest thing to a ideal work partner. It allows us to work out our thoughts directly on some format as we think it over and usually at the rate of our actual processing if our fingers are fast enough (which is why I take 5 hours in the store trying to find ideal keyboard for optimal output)
This device to us is like some sort of third arm with 20 fingers and a tentacle, so I was wondering this: Do you name your computer? And how deep of a connection do you have with it?

I named my computer a Monolith as it is this huge semi-server double tower and to me it feels almost like a friend. A friend that vacuums one third of the dust in my apartment
And when I hear odd sound inside it or it gets a random lag spike I react like my friend just went "ow" and look for any signs of trouble.

Also my apologies for the long post. I just wanted to offer a light topic to discuss of the one instrument and a child of science that has made us rare 1% of the population a little more connected.

I just bought my new computer (Acer D255) ten days ago. Haven't really thought of naming it but now that you've brought it up I'll consider it. I bought a small one so it fits into my small backpack. Maybe a name reflecting it's size. Or something Russian as the keyboard is both English and Russian. Hmm... Misha?

Like the poster above, I haven't thought about naming my computers but now that the thought has occurred I probably will. I have a netbook and a laptop [for my room and convenience]. Maybe I'll name my iPod [Touch] too.

My relationship with them? I'm still getting to know my netbook as I don't use him often but I'll call him a good acquaintance, as he's sometimes slow. My laptop is a good friend of mine but every now and then I'll get a hissy fit at it. I love my iPod. <3

I'd love the computers more if they were faster. My mind is waaaay ahead of their loading even if their speed is decent. Ah well, the primitive technology of the times.

Then I know we are well in the technological era when my computer can love me back and gives me a name.

All my computers have names (who wants to memorise IP addresses?), but for the most part they're fairly unoriginal. 'win7', 'winxp', 'bedroom', etc.
To me, a computer is a tool. I don't particularly care which one I'm using provided the specs are reasonably high, but I prefer mine cause I'm used to it and have modified it to suit my needs.
Coincidentally, I just finished putting together my new system yesterday. Linux + SSD = 3 second boot time :D

Well, more than proper emotional connection to a computer, I feel a sort of kinship. We both have about similar personalities:
If user = incompetent then <crash>
If runtime environment lags, reboot and up clocks.
    Affection does not compute.
emotions = unnecessary processes, forcekill app.
If client runs too well then bluescreen out of spite.

My body is a tool too for my brains, I still care for it, maintain it and respect it. It is relatively good user interface. (could use one more pair or arms and pair of jet engines for faster transport)

Most of my computers eventually get the name, "go, you piece of shit." Even brand new with SSD. I know... it's sickly sweet.

Mine are usually named, "hurry the fuck up", "move", or "you worthless piece of trash fucking circuit dumpster!" *punch*

I don't name my computers, and didn't consider myself emotionally attached in the least until the last time my HD *fried itself*
I was close to inconsolable on the inside, raging on the outside.
I faithfully back everything up, and refer to my computer as "it."
