    Tele-no-vision

Okay, this is not a post in the fashion of "do INTJ'S crap letters?" but a little bit deeper topic:

I have noticed a trend in television: there is overabundance of feeler entertainment like soap operas and reality TV full of extrovert idiots acting obnoxious.
Social topics dominate all channels and the rare times something more intelligent comes on even on the overpriced science focused channels it comes in absurd hours which leads me to have to rely on the punctuality of the channel to digitally record my show(s)

And what I want input on is this: Do you my fellow Masterminds watch TV for social content too or just use the occasional access to TV guides as torrent tips for new documentaries?
How many hours would you say you spend a week in front of "boob tube" or content from it that is made available by the evil and corrupt pirates responsible for the thinning of the wallets of studio tycoons?

I personally have mostly sworn off TV save a few channels that provide scientific data and historical content.
And some animated shows. (I am a graphic artist and comic book illustrator so cartoons are almost like work reference to keep up with the lingo)

Do you use TV to turn off your primary processor and just enjoy some "off time" or are you the sort that seeks brain fodder from television?

I don't watch TV at all for the last couple of years save a couple of times turning it on then getting really angry and wanting to scream at the stupidity of it. It's so insulting! I sometimes keep up to date with news by going to ABC website and I download series to watch. No ads, no depressingly stupid voices conspiring with me to watch the latest gossip on a soapie, no news about local car accidents and politicians getting caught getting drunk driving. Bliss!

When I'm in my home-country and have found work and room/small apartment, I never bother with hooking up an aerial. I do have a small TV that I've hooked up with first a VCD player and later a DVD player as I collect movies on VCDs and DVDs. I'm guessing next time I return I'll just have a computer with internet access. Before getting here I had a hotelroom with TV and enjoyed watching 5-6 episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" (new to me) Plus a bit of "House".

No TV. It has been 3-4 years now and I don't know how I ever had time to watch it before.

I hardly watch tv. My internet/computer is my tv. I like watching tv shows that interests me, so travel channel, history channel, green channel, food network, house/garden channel/house international, "foreign" channels etc.

That is how it is with me too, I do own a fullHD TV of 37 inches but it is playing the part of secondary monitor that I use for BluRay (tm) movies and movies in general. And also layout of book pages when the layout duty falls on me.

I thought it was more sensor-oriented than feeler-oriented.
I don't normally watch TV, but I am partial to anime. Some of it feels more intellectual than the standard stuff (e.g. Code Geass, Elfen Lied). When I want off-time I take a shower or listen to music.

No TV "programming" here for 2 yrs. If I want "real" news and info I go to the net, library or other.

No TV for about 5 years now. Except for sometimes National Geographic when I'm waiting for something.

This is how it is with me too. If I ever feel like watching a TV show, I'll just go on Hulu or another similar website to find it. I may see it a day later than everyone else, but I get to watch it without commercials.
