    INTJ father, INTJ mother.

Today I sat down with both my mother and father and had them each take the Myers-Briggs test.
My father was, unsuprisingly, an INTJ.
My mother is also an INTJ, which came as a shock to me. I had always pinned her as an xNFP.
    How could that have happened?
Anyway..I myself am an INTP. I have noticed that, in the past and in the present, I have always been attracted to INTJs.

I adore my parents, and I think them both to be incredibly intelligent, strong people.
I am thinking that it is likely that I am attracted to the INTJ type because my parents are both INTJs.
I'm sure I could find something about this kind of topic somewhere in the forums, but I just haven't looked yet.

Does anyone here think that my personality preference in the opposite sex could be because my parents are themselves INTJs? I'd like opinions, and if at all possible, a link or two that will help to further explain your reasoning.

the complement for INTP and INTJ are each other. That is probably why you feel that is what you would look for in a spouse in terms of personality. Here is a link on this. if you scroll to the bottom it will list different relationships of the INTP ideally. Man, I wish I had an INTJ relative. I don't know about having both of them for parents, but it would be awesome! Hope this helps. INTP Profile

Its possible since you have alot of experience w your parents that INTJs are the easiest for you to understand. Staying within your comfort zone?

I don't see how INTP are a good match- it seems like the NT causes a lot of fighting, rather than personal connection, at least in my experience. But then again, I don't know ANY other INTJ, and would love to meet one.

As someone stated above, maybe seeking another INTJ is done out of comfort? Or, regardless of what your parents are (since you didn't know what your mother was), maybe it's because you realize we're the best of the best

Hmm...I'm sorry to say that I don't have any links for you, but the fact that you have a good relationship with your parents just might be the key. Or you might have a good relationship with them because they are INTJs; I'm not sure which way it works. My mother is an ISFJ and our relationship is rocky at best. I can't say I even have ISFJ friends because mom's ways of doing things just get on my nerves.

I think it makes sense that if you've had a positive experience with people of a certain type, you'd seek out more people of that type. Just my two cents. Sorry for my lack of scientific backup.

And man, you're lucky to have NT parents! <3

I know it adds nothing new to the conversation, but I really have to second this. In addition, I have two siblings, an ISTP and an ESFP. I always wondered why I didn't enjoy going home for holidays...

I'm an INTJ parent and I try to be really laid back and give my kids room to grow.

I don't think I read that you are the "most" compatible with INTJs as SO but I could be wrong.

*puts hand up to having ESFP father* --THE PAIN-- I have (in the past) been attracted to messy, feely, gregarious, sensory types almost as if against my will. I have been retraining myself. At least I hope I have. I think it's a valid point you have there about attraction to your parent's types.

However I am blessed with INTP mother and INTJ brother (who stood in as father a lot as a child) I am also attracted to NT's but now it is on a more kindred comfortable level.
    Snowguard thanked this post.
