    Self-deprecating comments

Do you think self-deprecating comments are commonly made by someone who is INTJ, or would it make you question their type?

If they made too many I'd question their type.

I'd wonder why they do it. There must be a reason for it.

I find self-deprecating comments incredibly irritating, especially when someone (for example, a friend) shows me something they made and then tries to feign modesty by saying it "totally sucks" after I compliment them.

I don't see the use in comments such as these. Are they trying to purposely make themselves feel worse, or is it some kind of socially-acceptable and expected behavior? Either way, I wish it'd stop.

Good question. Probably depends on what type says it.

One reason could be they´re not sure if you´re just being polite or really mean it. Saying it sucks will probably make you try to prove you really mean it. Exactly what they want to hear.

Other reason could be simple insecurity.

    Examples:
"I have a dumb question (I know, I'm full of them)..."
"I'm really not that fast of a typer and yet I type faster then I think half the time. ;)"

Ah, yes I do make these quite a bit. Because usually my questions are dumb and I'm never typing as fast as I could. You may think an INTJ has looked down on you, but our standards are even more impossibly high when it comes to valuing ourselves.

I don't do this. If I have a question, I ask it, no strings attached. I haven't really noticed that trend in other INTJs, either.

I mean, I'm far too amazing to warrant comments like this. The only bad thing about me is that I'm so awesome. Seriously.

First one sounds dumb but isn't a big deal. Second one sounds like they're indirectly tooting their own horn.

One needs to also keep in mind that these comments could be an attempt to appear humble when they really are not. You'd have to take their entire character into account.

To those of you who haven't had to use such techniques, I congratulate on the good fortune you've had to be surrounded by understanding kin and sheep who don't wish to slaughter you, or, failing that, the ability survive unpleasant environs much better than some of us. For so long, everyone and everything told me that I was the one at fault, the one posessing the problem, and even after submitting to said view, still found no solace.

Self-deprecating comments are one of my survival tools in a society that looks very harshly on anyone 'different'. Oh, how I wish they'd all just leave me the fuck alone, but I have a wife and a job and cats to worry about now.
