...when you begin ranting out of nowhere about the stupidity of Sally and her idea to sell seashells down by the seashore because ANYBODY could pick up a shell off the ground and walk away with it; therefore, her business is INEFFICIENT and Sally is a MORON.

Haha. My INTJ friend was pretty passionate about this.

    That made me laugh!

Well, that depends. Perhaps Sally knows a secret place where she can find exceptionally beautiful seashells and people buy them because they can't find those themselves or are to lazy to spend time searching. Possibly she has more sucess at the seashore than somewhere else because there are more people interested in seashells at the seashore. (i.e. people are lazy morons and Sally is adept at using that to her advantage) Besides, she probably lives there and the ride into the city or wherever would be a waste of time and money if business is going well anyways...

Wait, why am I thinking about that?

It's probably a good thing that you are INTJ and able to think your way past just blindly following patterns. The worst thing is to try and find a partner who has no traits like the opposite gender parent.....making choices in that department has always been the bane of my existence.

Maybe Sally sells seashells after a storm, having sheltered her share from tsunamis with care. Maybe the seashore is not made of sand, the shells all shatter and sink in the shale? Maybe she saves them from the sea itself, to sell by the seashore in the seashell stall?

Wow, brain the size of a planet, and I'm thinking about Sally's seashell scam?

I sense that this isn't meant literally.

Oh I see, I haven't read those books in a long time. I'm so out of tune with the zeitgeist.

I literally had a list of qualities that I wanted/needed in a partner written out on paper, and divided into 3 sections: Must Have; Really Want; Nice to Have. Then I spent way a significant number of years and time on breaking down the behaviors of my parents, my own traits, and how to recognize the things I didn't want in a partner. It paid off, I'm extremely happy with my DH, and we are both pretty dang content with our relationship (both INTJs).

Thankfully my propensity towards self reflections has payoffs since I'm quick to notice when I'm following patterns I don't like or am being sucked into another manipulative circle by my parents and can relatively quickly cease the actions.

It's interesting that you laid out the qualities you were after. I pretty much had a list (in my head) which I didn't want. That doesn't work...hahaha. I'm a 9 enneagram too which made it hard to define who I was for a long time. Being highly adaptable also meant that I worked around problems rather than strive for one direction. I managed stability everywhere else and in friendships too but not choosing a partner.
