    INTJ: Giving people nicknames?

After I know someone well enough, I usually end up giving them nicknames that I call them... pretty much anything other than their real name. They may or may not actually like the nickname, and it may randomly change over time. I have one friend who may literally have a hundred or so nicknames depending on which one I remember at the time. Mostly, I do it because I find the nicknames hilarious. Same goes for animals... they get dozens of nicknames.

    Are you a nicknamer?

I used to do this when I was younger, and I enjoyed the creative process of trying to relate someone's name back to something that held meaning, but I mostly did so to get a reaction from others and to try to 'fit in'. Nowadays, I do not do it, and definitely don't miss doing so: my fondness for others can be expressed in more creative ways specific to them.

Never realized this could be an INTJ thing, but I totally do this. When a person cross the line from being an acquaintances to a close friend who I care for dearly, I give them a nickname. Usually it's something completely random-- the first word that pops into my head-- and it makes no sense, but somehow suits them. The nickname tends to stick until it no longer fits how I view our friendship, and then I come up with something better. To me, giving someone a nickname is like a right of passage. To them, it's another one of my completely crazy quirks. = P

Very much so. The nicknames I come up with are random and meaningless, but I find them hilarious. They really only have meaning to me alone.

.....Now that you mention it, all of my close INTJ friends do this to me. I haven't really found another type that does this either. I take it as a way to express their affection :D

Only to a select few and strictly as a form of endearment.

I always do this for my cat. Rarely, if ever, for people. I tend to use their given name, if I need to use anything at all. I prefer not to use people's names if I can get away with it.

Typically only when people give me nicknames, and I am fond of that person. A friend called me Dar-dar (Darren) a lot so I started calling her Dan-dan (Danielle), though she ended up with the nickname of D-Boy for me I still call her Dan-dan.

I rename my dog Dingo on a daily basis, leaving her quite confused. Today it is "POON-TARD"
