Is it normal for people to come to you for advice?

In my class, I tend to be social every once in a while, at least when I'm not working or when something someone is talking about peaks my interest and I feel the need to interject. Lately though, since I've been working hard and achieving a lot, people have been coming to me asking for advice about social problems and other life issues.

What do I even tell someone in this situation without sounding like I'm blowing them off (get your mind out of the gutter)?

I honestly couldn't care about their problems, nor do I want to give bad advice because they only tell me half of the story, and then turn around and say that my advice was horrible.

Infact, how do I tell people that I don't want to talk to them without coming off as a prick?

The question in your title and the question in your OP are very different *finger waggle*

People come to me for advice all the time.

There is no way to tell people you don't want to talk to them without coming off as a prick.

My bad. My mind is in 10 different places at once right now. Kind of hard to think straight at the moment.

Yep they do. Not all the time tho, I have a kind of 'unapproachable' vibe going on that comes off useful at some times but at others it does not.

I'm more than willing to give advise to people who'll listen. If this person is genuinely concerned and actually thinks my advise is going to work for them, then go ahead, I don't care if it's 2 am!

And I just love that moment when we're done, the person looks at me in amazement and says "You're so wise..." It's adorable, really. I just laugh and say "I try".

Yes, people come to me ALL THE TIME for advice. I guess I look like a fount of wisdom despite my goofball ways.

The only way I can weasel out of giving advice is if I can come up with a reasonable excuse, such as,
"Oh dear, look at the time! I really wish I could help you out, but I really need to (leave or do something) right away!"
This method works best if it is accompanied by a pat on the shoulder and a sympathetic look. Then hurry off like the hounds of hell are at your heels.

Yes. I'm like the Oprah of my friends group. I listen to their stories and problems, and they come to me for advice like I have all the answers or something, when I don't.

As for the part where you don't want to talk to people, just be honest. Honesty is the best policy, in my humble opinion. You get straight to the point and cut past all the tiptoeing and BS.

I often go to my xNTJ friends for advice - especially when I am feeling highly emotional and irrational. They have a very calming effect on me and always manage to help me see 'clearly' through all the emotion. I really value their words of wisdom.

Claim ignorance. Works like a charm every single time.

My intj son gives awesome guidance and advice for everything from computer issues (better than my stp ex) to philosophical issues.

But he's too hard-nosed on the psychosocial issues to be of any help in that regard, imo. Very Ayn Rand in philosophy, even though he's generous enough for his age.

Yeah, they do. I suppose they should as I'm their manager.

Also spent 4 hours last weekend playing Dr. Phil for a couple I know.
