The words you want to hear and actions you want to see....

I was very fascinated with the INFP thread "the words you would like to hear most"

Most replies were "I will love you forever"

I'm extremely curious if this is what everyone wants to hear or is it just INFPs. Is this a human trait or a personality trait?

Being an INFP, I would actually want to believe it more than hear it. Actions are so much more meaningful than words! How can one believe words...they are only words, but at least they can make you feel it for a second.

The following I would like to hear from my love and be made to believe with action every day:

I waited for you all my life...
    you can do no wrong...
I will always understand and forgive you...
I will build castles with you strong enough to withstand all disasters...
I will conquer all our fears...
I don't care what anyone thinks...
I want to see the world through your eyes...
If I fall out of love with you, my mission in life will be to fall back in love..
I want to take over the world with you and will never let you go...
I know that as long as I'm with you everything will be okay...everything else comes after.
I will always be by your side...
I will never leave you alone no matter what....

You are my home you are my life...

From my friends and family : I will always be by you side...I will never leave you alone no matter what…you can do no wrong…I know your intentions are good.

What words would you want to hear and actions you want to see?

Well, certainly not the ones you like. They would just intimidate me. I don't want to be anyone's all in all - that actually feels oppressive, just thinking about it. I'd prefer to hear something like:

"I can always count on you."
"Together, we make a great team."
"Being with you makes me happy."

And actions to match, of course. I agree that they are more important than words.

Edit: I just noticed, it's weird that I didn't write "You can always count on me" as something I want to hear. I suppose it is more important to me to be relied upon than to completely rely on someone else. I always hold myself a little aloof that way.

It might be just my experience, but "I will love you forever" feels more like a chain around my neck than a warm fuzzy.

I'd much rather be valued for my writing skills, the work I've done, or how I've helped someone, right now. "This was excellent work" would make me happy.

    -You're awesome.
-I'm glad we could come to an agreement.
    -That's brilliant.
    -Wow...
-I wish I knew what was going on in that funked up head of yours.
    -We're brothers(sisters) forever.
-I'm glad I can trust you.
    -...how did you do that?
-All of the human race is now yours to control.
    -You're such an asshole.

The last two were a joke...

"You are way more fun than (insert obsessive hobby)"
"It's not that I will never leave, but why would I want to?"
"Just because I don't talk to you every day, doesn't mean I don't care"
"You subdue my asshole tendencies with your aura of awesomeness"
"I don't care if anyone is watching"
    Verthani thanked this post.

"You were right, I was wrong, and I should have listened to you" followed by some serious grovelling.

(I don't mind an "I will love you forever" as long as it's from the right person.)

I wouldn't mind an "I love you forever." from the right person. But I prefer a good "You're an enigma" or "You fascinate me." Mystery keeps thing interesting. When you don't have all the answers, there's more opportunity to learn more about someone and get to know them on a more intimate level. :P

As far as actions go, they have to match the words. If you make a promise, keep it. If you say you're going to do something, do it.

-Whenever you need me, i wont be far away.
-There is a Jameson on the table for you.

As for actions, i'd like the person to come in flip out two tickets: "Were going to Mars."

You are so right! The process of discovery is an incredible sensation...a couple that can turn their relationship it into a lifelong process/puzzle...can enjoy another like a "game", "book" etc. that is why we have entertainment ;) We are fortunate that there is always something new to be discovered. Perhaps in a successful relationship, it would come from a continual growth of the partners and their desired effort. The problem is: How can this motivation be achieved?

About promises, I don't believe in them. Everything passes. All we can do is to enjoy the present moment best we can.

So over all INTJ's would prefer to be needed and appreciated above all else?
