Both are names I've seen used for INTJs. Which do you prefer?
I'm partial towards Mastermind, myself. If only because it sounds slightly better.

Not really either of them. I don't really do anything "scientific," and "mastermind" is far too glamorous a term to describe merely being conscious of less-tangible realities. I bet a lot of us "plot" less than we claim to.
Peer beneath MBTI, and we're all people.
Mastermind because it sounds much more cooler.
Both apply, but seeing how I actually chose one of them as my screen name, I'll leave it up to interpretation.
Evil Scientist Mastermind?
I have a science degree :/
That being said I don't like scientist it sounds like an isolated nerd in lab.
Mastermind also sounds like a dude that sits in a cave and plots all day.
Analyst is more accurate I experience life and analyze a lot of things, I'd say a lot more then most.
Analyst or Strategist are terms I feel describe the INTJ better than Scientist and miles ahead of Mastermind.
Mastermind doesn't really suggest much other than intelligent, and in that sense it's not truly useful or even accurate. Indeed, it suggests a knowledge about everything, whereas I've noticed that many INTJ's become experts in what they want to know and care little for anything else.
Scientist is good. It suggests the process of testing, theorising and experimenting. All very INTJ ways of doing things. However, it has connotations of... well, having knowledge of science. While common, it's certainly not a given.
Analyst describes virtually the same mindset, only without other assumptions about a scientist bolted on.
Strategist is trumped by Analyst in my opinion, but it describes the INTJ's strength in ruthlessly developing practical solutions, a trait which often separates us from our theoretical INTP cousins.
