How many times have you changed your mind...

...about a post you've written on this forum?

This is what happens to me sometimes:

    1. "Aha! I have a great idea for a topic/reply"
    2. (types out thoughts enthusiastically)
    3. "What the heck, can't I write a proper sentence?"
    4. (makes adjustments)
    5. "Wow, this seems so narrowly-focused. I need to account for other possibilities."
    6. (makes adjustments)
    7. "Hmmm, this part might offend someone"
    8. (makes adjustments)
    9. (previews post)
    10. "This doesn't sound like me at all! It's so rigid and generic. I'm not being true to myself! Screw this!"
    11. (deletes text and continues browsing the forum)

Haha yeah, I've done that for sure. I find that here on PerC, that tendency is not as bad as it is on some other forums I'm a member of, though.

I do something similar sometimes. Its okay though, I think its normal.

For me, writing helps me to think... writing sort of guides my thinking and is a learning process so I expect that sometimes it won't always go in the direction I expect or hope for; sometimes it may go nowhere at all. Sometimes I type something out and it just seems boring.. this might be one of those posts but I'm going to post it anyway.. haha

Other times I'll type something out, maybe a venting thread type of thing and then I'll read it and realize that I don't really need to share it, mainly, I just need to get the thoughts out and organize them. After that I'll erase and go on about my business. It depends though.

Just estimating, I probably post something like 80% of posts I begin to type out. The other 20% go to message board purgatory.

All I'm going to say is I edit myself and edit my sent posts about one million times. This would look better this way, whoops that word isn't right, spelling is off, missing a comma, can't say that it will cause an argument, can't say that I'll be banned, all of this is reasons why....my poor poor posts!

Yes! And I particularly get stuck on steps 3, 4, and 5 so many times.

That's so hilarious XD ...and a little uncanny. I was going to make a post about this yesterday and then deleted it! XD It happens on here, I've had maybe 4 or 5 great post ideas but i always end up going through that exact same process and after maybe 20 minutes perfecting a post I just delete the whole thing. ...one of these days I'm just going to press the "post thread" button on something I was about to delete...just to see what happens XD

Most of the time I just type things as they come to mind then post them. Then realise there are couple of minor grammatical errors or a spelling mistake I really didn't remember making, and a passage that might be taken the wrong way so I just give it the quick once over before anyone notices. I tend not to obsess too much otherwise I'd never post anything. But that might be why I don't really make any threads. I get maybe one or two ideas a week for a thread, if that, but they always disappear back into the recesses of my mind before I can sit down to type them out. Lately I've also started getting rid of whole posts at a time because I don't think they're all that good, though. But just to buck the trend I'll post this one.

    Yes, 90% of times. xD

    Add to that list:
    - "I'm sure I'm contradicting myself here" (makes adjustments)
    - "Now I'm being way too vague" (tries to elaborate)
    - "Ugh, I just can't accurately write what I want to say" (gives up)

although I feel I've been putting much less thought in posts, I've been so short of time.. but I'm just too addicted to stop browsing perC, lol.

YES! About 93% of my posts have the line "Last edited by Marimeli" at the bottom :)

Really common behavior for me as well. Sometimes a post ends up in the bit bucket because it ends up as just me trying to workout the details of the topic, and after I'm done I no longer see a good reason to post it. Hm... I should start saving the posts I end up killing, just to see how bad I am at it.
