I spoke to a friend of mine yesterday and it got me thinking.
I have an shrink which told me he were an INTP, and I have been going there for some weeks now. And I feel that he does not understand me when I start talking about how I feel about things. I feel he bash a little on my values because I see things different from him...

Idk but Im thinking maybe I should find an NF shrink instead? perhaps that would be better for me...? as I already feel the world does not understand me, trying to help myself get better with someone that cannot understand me, it just pushes me into things I do not enjoy. Perhaps thoes things that "i dont enjoy" I do need to push through... Maybe I'm seeking a way out... Im not certant.

Idealy I do belive having an INFP or INFJ person to help would make it easier since I do belive I would be more understood than now.

Just curious what you people think :)

    Cheers ^^
Lots of INFP's view everything in regards to how it affects them, or how they feel about it. I think he might just be trying to get you to see that there is a lot of other things going on in every situation apart from your self and your feelings towards it. Instead of seeing things as irritating and having your feelings affecting all your decisions, try to find out why things are the way they are apart from how you feel from them, almost like looking at a situation from an omniscient point of view instead of a single observer. Or maybe im out to lunch.

Don't choose psychologist based on type. Instead choose a psychologist based on how much they help you. I mean, some of the best psychiatrists of all time have been INTP: Freud and Carl Jung. Hell, one time I had an ENTJ psychologist, and he was awesome!
    Fhreed thanked this post.

I'm not sure Freud makes the best example, considering one of his favorite recommendations for his female clients was clitoridectomies...

lol, yes but his theories on the id, ego, and super-ego were very legitimate theories that changed psychology forever. I mean Freud was the father of Psychoanalytic psychology for God's sake. If it weren't for Freud's influence on Carl Jung we wouldn't have this mbti system right now.

Freud did have some pretty shitty theories though. For example, he thought that women that couldn't orgasm through penetration alone, were sexually immature and something was wrong with them. As it actually turns out though, only about 33% of women can cum without some sort of clitoral stimulation. On the other hand, when clitoral stimulation is commenced, about 9/10 women can come. So obviously that theory is out. Also, Freud had a stupid theory called, "Penis Envy" in which he believed that all women secretly wished that they had penises and were envious of men for having them. Finally, when it came to analyzing dreams, Freud believed that just about anytime someone had a dream with pretty much any cylindrical object, it had something to do with sex. So yes, Freud had many fucked up theories.
