Tell me about Montreal. Good city for INFPs?

    Hey peepz!!!
So I live in Austin, TX. I love this place to death.
But I can't stay here once I graduate because I'm foreign.
Montreal's my answer as acquiring green card is easy there.

I know Austin's an INFP-friendly city so how about Montreal?

I'm into music, psychedellics. I like drinking but not really partying.

i'm getting the impression that Montreal is more 'posh'. in austin, you can wear whatever you want, be awkward and stilll fit in. is it not like that in Montreal?

I suppose it's like any other Cosmopolitan city around the world. I've only been there once, but I got a great feel of the city, lot of young people and energy. My high school French teacher told us so many cool stories about Montreal, that I might end up just living there myself one day, as it aligns with my future goal of learning a second language.

I think there are quite a few members here who are from Montreal so they'd probably be able to describe the city better than me.

Do you smoke? If yes, probably.
Being totally serious, every time I go there, I can't handle all the smokers.
Also, most--not all but the vast majority--of people are quite rude to you if you don't speak (Canadian) French--which is actually different from the French spoken in other French as a first language countries/cities/states/provinces/whatever they may be called.
They pretend to not know English, but then they turn around and talk to their friends, IN ENGLISH.
It's posh in the whole idea of Fashion and Club culture, but to be very honest I'm not a fan. The city is very much based on Club culture, unless you go to Old Montreal where it's about Modern Art and Fashion.
Also, bear in mind you will get looks, their Fashion culture is VERRRRY different.
It's kind of like an exclusive society, I wouldn't say it's very INFP-friendly. Unless you can handle people being rude because you speak only English.

Not trying to be rude to anyone from Montreal , just telling it as I've seen it.

Francophones have a tendency to be a bit more upfront and critical from what I've experienced. In some ways, it's comforting because they speak their mind, but I can't imagine an INFP handling that all too well.

Also, as a way of protecting their own culture (not sure if you're familiar with the whole Quebec vs Canada issue) they have a tendency to be prejudice towards people of other nationalities/backgrounds. Essentially, you are either promoting their culture (then you become a best friend!) or you are damaging it (uh oh).

With that said, there has been a large positive movement lately in Quebec. One of their political parties was just decimated in an election and that suggests that temperaments are starting to change there. So with that in mind, maybe things are changing or have changed already, hard to tell you.

do i smoke cigarettes? no, i quit. but it doesn't bother me that much if others smoke, especially outdoors.

do i smoke other stuff? i already know Montreal and Canada in general is a good place for that. haha.

shit, i hate club culture. i feel so useless in a club. like hip-hop club's the worst. i think i can learn to appreciate electronic music clubs though.

yep! i'm aware of the Quebec vs Canada situation. i support the Quebecois on this issue. i respect them for saying "Fuck you, get out!!" to fat cat Anglo sexist capitalists. just saying, no offense to people of Anglo ancestry.

I am willing to dedicate myself to learn their language and culture to the best of my abilities but shit now i am kinda worried about the extent of marginalization based on my ethnicity or accent, if that's the case, it's not worth moving there.

i think you're right about the positive attitude. they are REALLY open to immigration, these days. like, you can't find other places in the world this open to immigration.

Ah, that's the way it is in Korea. That's also kind of the reason why I don't wanna go back to Korea. But I doubt Quebecois would be worse than Korean people.

Too bad to see you go, I wish you well on your life journey. NYC would have been great for you, considering what you've typed-here you are really feel to be yourself, and nobody cares, as well they shouldn't. May you find a place where you'll be able to grow while still being true to yourself.

Best city in Canada for INFPs is Toronto. Actually, the best place here for any personality type is Toronto. It's our one and only world-class city, and there is so much going on to participate in -- or not -- as you please. We also have Canada's #1 Korean community here (of which my wife and step-son are part). Why go french when you can go best.
