Does anyone else think that "the friend zone" is a stupid concept?

I always thought the the point of dating and being in relationships was to find "the one." But why is it that some people, (mostly girls) think that just because you are friends first it cannot ever work? Wouldn't it be better off starting as a friendship, or a best friendship? Isn't that healthier? Wouldn't that be more worthwhile? Especially if attraction begins to spark?

I don't really understand it and I ignore it.

While I'm stereotyping big time, I don't think it's a matter of women building a bond with someone, that's usually easy for most of them. It's letting go that's really difficult.

Probably because women know what they want before they date you. First date for
me would be all i need to know as to whether or not i am attracted to you romantically.
Physical attracted has to be there in order to proceed, there needs to be some kind
of chemistry or energy happening. If not, the friend zone is where it stays.

I don't know anyone who has said or thinks that (as far as I am aware). Most girls, myself included, far prefer starting out as friends. Maybe I just hang around a different crowd. Could they be trying to gently reject you? Or, that they value your friendship so much that they don't want to risk it. :)

Personally I mean sometimes there isn't chemistry or anything there with someone
and you can't help that you don't feel an attraction to them.
As a person they're great but if you don't feel it you don't feel it,so instead of having to
cut ties off from them we still be friends with them, because well they're great sure but
so are all your friends but you don't want to fuck them, well I mean Most of the time unless your
friend is pretty fucking hot,but you certainly don't want a relationship with them.
    *shrug*

(this made no sense most likely haha)

Not to pick on you, and it may be the case for yourself, but I find this -rarely- to be the case.
This isn't just to hate on girls though, most guys are in the same category.

I do agree on chemistry though.

But what I'm asking is if that attraction could develope or not?
If not, than why is it so final?

I can't be sure if an attraction can be developed, maybe. For me its either i am , or not.
It may be different with different women. Maybe they will see something in you later,
they didn't initially see, i don't know sweets.
Not really sure what you mean by final. You can still be friends even if there isn't
    an romantic attraction.
I see it this way. If a women isn't attracted to you for whatever reason, don't get me
wrong, it may have nothing to do with who you are, it just could be they don't feel
compatible. Wouldn't you rather have a girl who you click with , without having to
try to make yourself attracted to her, or visa versa.

It comes with maturity. The older you are, the more likely you will know what you want. If not,
the search will continue. Wouldn't a relationship be stronger if you know where its going,
    what you're looking for etc.
