    INFP's and vegetarianism

    Hello dear fellow INFP's

I was just wondering are there more vegetarian people out there? I am one. I remember when I was a child my mom gave me a little chicken made out of candy. I ate it's head. And I so strongly remember the regret and sorrow I had for it. I felt like a murderd a living being. I thought it lived. Later I became vegetarian.

"It's as though they live at the edge of a looking-glassworld where mundane objects come to life, where flora and fauna take on near-human qualities."

Hello! I'm a veggie I became one when I was 12 briefly without learning enough about it and reverted back to being a meat-eater shortly after... but then I became one properly about 2 and a half years ago after considering it for a long time and I'd gone off eating meat long before that so it was like a natural progression.

I'm not aggressively militant about it although I feel strongly about my personal choice and beliefs regarding it. I don't like to tell people what they should eat but I think they should know everything about it... processes and all sorts, so I'll tell them that if it comes up, then it's up to them.

I've been a vegetarian for nearly a decade. Even as a child I disliked eating meat, and only did it because the adults told me I was supposed to. My parents raised their own cattle and pigs, and I got very attached, especially to the pigs. I watched things I cared about die, twitching and kicking on the ground. I watched them get hung up on hooks, where they could bleed and be skinned. I cried when they were butchered. When I was just a small child, I stood there holding the hose to wash away the blood. I refused to eat them, and would just have cereal while everyone else was eating steak or pork. My parents tried to lie to me about what I was eating, making up a non-animal-related name for my chicken cacciatore in an attempt to convince me that it wasn't meat. I knew what they were doing, and played along to make them happy, despite being disgusted by it. When the only food option was meat, such as at family barbecues with hamburgers and hot dogs, I would have someone cook mine until it was charred and tough, then I would smother it in barbecue sauce or something that would disguise the flavor. Once my meat had neither the texture nor the flavor of a dead animal, I would force myself to eat it. My grandparents on my dad's side used to shame me for not liking meat, using bible verses to show that God wanted me to eat it. The things they told me were, and still are, inconsistent with my view of God. My grandparents on my mom's side laughed at me every year at Thanksgiving over something I said when I was younger. The thing I said was, "I don't eat dead birds" when one of the adults asked if I wanted any turkey, and it became a running joke to keep bringing it up. They tried offering me turkey every year, just so they could say, "Oh wait, I forgot, you don't eat dead birds." I don't understand why it was so funny to them. All of my grandparents are dead now, and last Thanksgiving was the first one where I wasn't teased about my vegetarianism. My dad still teases me about it at other times, though, when he makes steak. He'll say, "I've got some steak in there for you," then he will laugh about it. I don't think he understands how I feel.

Vegan, here, for over a decade now. Was veggie a couple of years before that. And, no, it isn't difficult but I advise anyone who does it to make sure to learn about getting proper nutrition. It isn't more difficult or less tasty to get proper nutrition, it's just different. Wouldn't want to get sickly and have the carnivores say, "See? People have to eat animal products or they get sick!"

And I wish I had done it sooner. I feel bad about myself for not doing it sooner. I think for myself but I somehow bought into the b.s. of that "food pyramid" they teach everyone in school? It was such a relief when I found out the word vegan and what it meant. I never looked back. It was like recovering a piece of my true self.

When I move out on my own again, and am no longer dependent on others to buy my food for me, I intend to become a vegan. I was a vegan for about three months, back when I was living in the city, where I had access to plenty of decent stores. It is my goal, as soon as it becomes feasible, and this time, even if I dream about cheese every night, I think I will be strong enough to fight the temptation.

One word: Daiya. This is a melting vegan "cheese." OMG. You have to get Amy's Macaroni and Cheeze (I get the "Rice Macaroni with Dairy Free Cheeze" that's soy free, gluten free, dairy free... free of everything but flavor!) It's in the frozen food section. I put it in a covered pot with a little water and slowly cook it.

And Tofurkey pizza is incredible! MMmmmMMMmmmm
It also uses Daiya. No gluten free crust, yet, though.

I make homemade pizzas, so that much is easy to modify as I please. I didn't know about Daiya. I'll have to see if they have it at Market of Choice. Thanks so much for the great suggestions.

I consider all this to be "junk" food, though. I only eat like this rarely, when being self indulgent. Usually I make everything I eat from scratch. Lots of veggies that I never even knew what they were before. Who knew you could take collards and turn them into something delicious? Or leeks and fennel? I never even knew what those things were in the produce aisle! Beets? Mmmm And you can make delicious lentil soup using beet greens!

    I almost like cooking. Almost.

I'm a vegetarian and a Vegan @ home. I'm livin' this kind of life since about 8 years now and I'm perfectly healthy (at least physically :)) I'm not doing any kind of missionary stuff because i think you rather annoy people when always stating that eating animal products is wrong and has a contrary effect on them. The reasons why I had become a vegetarian were mainly because of many things I read/had seen about factory farming. But the ultimate reason was that the father of a friend of mine is raising chicken at his farm. Seeing 50 000 little chickens waiting for their death (and also the smell of it) Will instantly turn you to a vegetarian if you have any feelings left inside you :)
