    INFP - The Idealists

It is VERY common for an INFP to test INTP. Many MBTI tests have a bias towards Extroverted Feeling (Fe) in the questions which determine T/F, so INFPs may end up choosing the T answers. Look into the cognitive functions. INFPs use Fi (Introverted Feeling) as their dominant function and INTPs use Ti (Introverted Thinking). We both use Ne (Extroverted Intuition), which is where much of our similarity lies.

As you learn about the functions, you will also see that both Feeling functions (Fe & Fi) are RATIONAL. Feeling is a rational thought process that determines value. It is NOT emotion.

BTW, I am great at math and enjoy it. I've heard other INFPs say something similar. There are a lot of statistics which support that INFPs are often very book smart & score high on IQ tests, so being good at math does not seem strange to me.

    INTP - The Thinkers

Don't rely on the test, understand what these concepts mean and assess yourself on your own.

    F doesn't mean we're not logical, *sigh* that's a common misconception

F means we give more weight to our emotions and values, and our goal is to achieve happiness/harmony rather than "getting things done on time and on budget".

Someone with a strong T preference will find our choices "irrational" because they don't result in getting things done in the way a T person wants.

Needless to say, emotions *can* cloud our judgement, but it's not necessary at all.

I've heard on my travels that there isn't an overly huge difference between Fi and Ti anyway, I've even heard once that they are essentially the same function with the main difference being the difference in perspective. If that's true then I wouldn't worry too much about it, be either what you feel is right or what your intuition is telling you what you are.

Yes, Jung does say that "Everything, therefore, that we have said about introverted thinking is equally true of introverted feeling, only here everything is felt while there it was thought "

I take this to mean we're judging based on a different premise. Ti has a framework of internal logic it references and Fi has a model of the ideal, which is why we prefer to make value judgments.

If I remember correctly, Fe & Fi have the same function - to determine value. But Fi & Ti have the same attitude, which means they judge based on an internal measure.

I see what all you guys say.

I agree with you. Specially with faeriegal713 and rowingineden, when he says that I should not base my identification on a simple test. As I said, I consider myself to be an INFP, really.

Interesting thing about the feeling function being rational. I always thought something like that, actually.

Hey, I didnt say that. I just said my thinking result might just be a reflex of me being more influenced by logical thinking. Scientific logic, that is (I do study Bio and scored high in mathematical, after all). Wich is different from saying F means we're not logical.

If you ask me, I would say that I always thought of thinking and feeling being connected. When I have something to deal with, for me it's logical that I act taking in consideration the feelings involved. I don't know if you guys can understand what I mean.

Also, I think I'm a pretty cool cat.

I understand completely and you just answered your own question with that one sentence. A thinker may consider feelings, but they will not truly sway their decisions or opinions. A feeler will not only consider feelings while in the process of making decisions, but they will be taken into account and be part of the decision making process.

To be honest, it's one of the things that confuses thinkers the most - we can be as straightforward as they are about some things, but in others, they just cannot follow our thought processes and how in the world we came up with that particular decision, opinion or whatnot.
