    Politics

Are any of you actively involved in or excited about politics? I've been thinking about this for awhile. Obviously, INFPs are very caring people and would jump at the chance to have the ability to help others. However, especially lately, politics has become excessively nasty. So what do you think?

Just the thought of that word has more negative connotations than murder for me...

I'm not actively involved, but I'd say I'm a political junkie. Srsly, up until recently, I was on Huffington Post and various news sites all the time, and between work and driving I was listening to NPR alllll day long. I got overload, so I've cut down on the input, but yeah, politics gets me going, no doubt about it. And (where applicable) it has a lot with me caring about people. (See: Arizona, the drug war, homelessness, food poverty...)

Honestly, I kind of see it as an intellectual soap opera too, because it really is absurd all of the time. If you look at it that way, what's not to love...?!

I think politics is the opposite of what we really are, at least in nowadays when politicians seems to care more about how they look to the public rather than actually DO something FOR the public.

As the way things are, i'm the least interested in politics. :)

Yeah politicans have ruined politics. Its a nasty and messy business.

I have far left wing political beliefs but I don't think I would involve myself in it unless the situation became dire. Seeing politicans go grey during their terms doesn't help either.

Political philosophy is something I really really really enjoy. It engages a part of me that only really gets exercised through philosophical avenues.

I have considered going into politics but... firstly, pragmatic politics is very much separate from political philosophy (to quote the opposition leader here in Australia "politics is practical, not theoretical", secondly, I have no inclination to accept a role that involves so much concentration on public image (I hate the notion of personality politics), and thirdly, I have explored other mechanisms of social change. I'm more for social entrepreneurship (which I think is more up the alley of Nf's). I don't like being told what to do, and I sure as hell would find it difficult to toe the party line, if an issue was brought up and dealt with in a manner I didn't think was correct. I'd probably last a week in federal politics, a few days in state politics

Politics makes me angry, which is a good thing. I'm invested in what goes on in the country (and world), and for the most part, I have strong conclusions as to what I think is appropriate and not appropriate in policy. Economics is the one thing I'm still forming my ideas about through my education. But in regards to social policy in general, I think I have learned enough now, to give me a firm foundation, in my attitudes of this.

I follow political topics on PBS. That being said... I have no wish to join them. When I see the things going on in the US, I think, wtf? Why are people voting for these guys? I feel a vast amount of politics are corrupt, and many only want to represent the people when their jobs are on the line. Then again, I am a bit jaded when it comes to politics. If you want to make a change that matters, at least in the US, I say become a Supreme court Justice (State or federal)... or organize a nation wide election campaign, to get as many people that really want to help elected in the same term as you can. The seniority thing in government makes the new guy take a back seat.

Having looked through political sciences a bit in my free time, I enjoy it. I like entertaining thoughts of small self regulated anarchical communist cells. Yes that's about the most un-American thing someone can say, but really in a small scale community, society would dictate rules, and so long as people would have to rely on one another, it would make a great society.

Actual politics suck. It's just about making your crimes complicated enough that the general masses think you've done them a favor until you can get out of office and get off scot free. It's a bunch of rich old men getting richer and making life more complicated for everyone but themselves.

I'm not actively involved in politics, but I do vote when election time comes. I tend to favor the more left wing parties, but in all actuality I'm more of a libertarian than anything.
