I don't read as much as I'd like to, but some of my current favorites are:

    1984 (George Orwell)
    The Neverending Story (Michael Ende)
    Crime and Punishment (Fyodor Dostoyevsky)

Of course, there many other good books I've read, but right now these are my favorites. Will probably add more to that list, of course.

    Books books books!

    My favorites are:

    A Lover's Discourse (Roland Barthes)

    Camera Lucida (Roland Barthes)

    Poetics of Space (Gaston Bachelard)

    Blood Meridian (Cormac McCarthy)

And the Ass Saw the Angel (Nick Cave)

The Death of Bunny Munro (Nick Cave)

    Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte)

In Memoriam A.H.H. (Lord Alfred Tennyson) - poem that's long enough to be a book on its own

The Complete Plays (Sarah Kane) - plays by the British dramatist; Cleansed, Blasted, 4.48 Psychosis, etc

It's all literature! literature! Question: in the deepest, darkest, poverty-stricken winter, would you burn your books to keep warm?

In winter, yes, but If I am the last man, a time capsule. It would be a sad moment. :(

    That's a hard question...
Maybe my paperbacks, if I was sure that I could buy new ones....
I have some books from the 1700's and 1800's and pre 1950's, and an almost complete collection of an old world history series that is incredibly well written; I would probably freeze to death before I could get myself to burn them...

Ps. I really hate the movie "The Day after Tomorrow" because of it's cheesy "metaforic" scene where they "have to" burn all the books. They are surrounded by mahogany furniture, damnit!! Stupid!!!
