    The Count of Monte Cristo for fiction. I love when an archetypal good guy has to go through hell and move on with their life. Consider me twisted in that regard.

    Nonfiction is tougher, two I like very much. The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston or Russia: The Once and Future Empire From Pre-History to Putin by Philip Longworth.

    The best book? Just one of each? But.... But......but.... I own about 11,000 books. I'll think on this..

    At first blush,

    Fiction: Dune by Frank Herbert (although the later books in the series are arguably better) beats out The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand barely.

    Non-Fiction: The Republic by Plato although I love financial history as well.

    I have many favorites but my standard answer for best book is The Razor's Edge by Maugham for fiction and The People's History of the United States by Zinn for non fiction. I love tons but I think I could read those two and always have something new speak to my soul each time.

    So far? It's a tie between Slaughterhouse-Five and Breakfast of Champions, both by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
    Non-fiction? I don't know, the Encyclopędia Britannica. The Little Dorling-Kindersley Encyclopedia of Science. I've been getting my non-fiction online for so long.

    Time to bring this thing back.

    Right now I'm reading the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series (just finished book 1) and I love it. It's the perfect mix of fantasy and realism, so you can relate to it without it being too boring or too complex.

    My friend @ShadowedSilhouette suggested the books The Sight and Fell to me, I'm going to buy the first one with some Christmas money. And @kaleidoscope recommended White Fang, which I also need to get! I'm gonna have a whole queue of books to read.

    I also found an awesome metal dragon bookmark on Amazon, but it's nearly £7. I don't think I want to pay that much for a bookmark. xD

    @Kito

    The movie is also pretty good if you feel like watching it instead :) Though of course, the book version is much more awesome IMO.
