    • It is the thing which separates me from the predators of men
    • It is my fire, the thing which drives me
    • It is my guide
    • It can sometimes cause disgust towards others who don't live up to the same standards
    • It can sometimes make me overly appreciative of drama, melancholy, etc.
    • It can sometimes mean I absorb others' energy/emotions too much
    • It is the thing I must always consider in any decision/calculation

I've had trouble with this at times lately. To the point I feel ''shut down''.

I wish it didn't have to be too strong, but I think it can be useful...Sigh.

I always thought this part (quoted below) from Jung on Fi-doms was interesting. It seems to me to say that our [Fi-dom's] own high standards & effort to live up to them reminds people of their own conscience, which can create a "stifling" affect that they can resent or fall under the guidance of. Basically, we make people feel guilty! I have noticed myself, that without saying a word or even being aware of it until later, that my behavior has affected others in that they took note and adjusted their own. Whenever I learn of this, I am surprised; I felt quite invisible, and like I was doing (or not doing) anything very noteworthy. People will either admire this aspect or find it annoying. It very much explains how INFPs "lead" also, which is in a subtle way, often by example.

Although, in the normal type, the tendency to overpower or coerce the other person with her secret feelings rarely plays a disturbing role, and never leads to a serious attempt of this kind, some trace of it nonetheless seeps through into the personal effect they have on him [the other person], in the form of a domineering influence often difficult to define. It is sensed as a sort of stifling or oppressive feeling which holds everybody around her under a spell. It gives a woman of this type a mysterious power that may prove terribly fascinating to the extraverted man, for it touches his unconscious.

    It makes me feel:
    Strong guilt.
Strong drive to do good in the world, it feels like Ive been given a mission.
Strong empathy for all living things, not just for humans.

This paragraph from an INFP profile is interesting..... any thoughts?
I see this describing an aspect of the INFP's conscience. The part about being drawn to the profane is interesting. I definitely play with dark ideas and thoughts, but it stops there (I almost need to explore them to determine they are "bad"). There's also a tendency to be drawn to broken & tragic, but that my be an e4 thing.

INFPs seek unity in their lives, unity of body and mind, emotions and intellect. They often have a subtle tragic motif running through their lives, but others seldom detect this inner minor key. The deep commitment of INFPs to the positive and the good causes them to be alert to the negative and the evil, which can take the form of a fascination with the profane. Thus INFPs may live a paradox, drawn toward purity and unity but looking over the shoulder toward the sullied and desecrated. When INFPs believe that they have yielded to an impure temptation, they may be given to acts of self-sacrifice in atonement. The atonement, however, is within the INFP, who does not feel compelled to make public the issue.

I feel terrible when anyone does something wrong. Anyone! If I see someone say something rude to a stranger, I want to go kick them in the head and give the person who was insulted a compliment and a gift. I can't help it.

I feel terrible when I'm too afraid to do the right thing, as well - but there's a big distinction between this and doing something wrong... you can not do the right thing and still not do the wrong thing. My instinct keeps me from doing anything I feel is completely wrong.

I feel completely repulsed by anything that is "wrong", unlike what INFP descriptions say, which uh, makes sexuality frustrating? Very frustrating?

I also feel a strong drive to do good, to see people smile and truly be happy... Universal compassion. That's the one true strength Fi holds, I think. Everything else holds me back. In unobstructed light, there is no room for darkness... but, the world we live in is full of obstacles...

Usually it's feeling mildly guilty about not doing things (for example, not expressing gratitude to somebody who has helped me). Once in a while, it's feeling stronger regret about having said mean things to a person, which is a change, because years ago I didn't regret that. Rarely do I struggle with my conscience as I'm making a decision.

I can't explain it, but I know I exist & think. Just having a hard time explaining my consciousness.
