    Peace and Quiet

So..any other INFPs really, really value peace and quiet sometimes? I have a few ENFP friends who can't stand it and always need to be talking and making noise, which personally drives me insane.

Many times, I like either silence, or being with my friends and just talking to each other quietly and restfully. Excessive chaos and noise and yelling is fun for a bit, but in a lot of situations it really frustrates me and gets under my skin.

So am I a crotchety old man before my time, or do any other INFPs like to just chill and have quiet in social situations a lot of the time?

    Not very ENFP...
I always prefer peace and quiet...I don't know what that has to do with being an INFP...
    Everyone needs it sometimes...

"I used to be afraid of cluttered noises, not I'm afraid of silence."
Sorry, I had a lyric attack haha.
Umm I dwell in the realms of noise and music, but at times it seems that nothing can fit my mood and I get frustrated with it all and just turn everything off and listen to silence. It seems to fit my mood the best sometimes, and helps restore my equilibrium back to a normal healthy emotional level.
But there are times when I can't stand it, and it deeply disturbs me, too.
I think it just depends on whatever mood I'm in, and it's healthy to juggle between noise and silence.
Noise helps me get energized and sociable, but excessive noise can cause me to become stressed and emotionally drained. Silence is the cure for that, as it gives my mind some time to recharge without distractions. Just... too much of it can drive me a little crazy haha.
Recently I've started the habit of going outside before I go to bed and smoking a cigarette while just staring at the sky in silentness, only hearing the soothing sounds of nature. It's a great way to wind down from a hectic day and get ready for bed. ...I think I enjoy some background noise, such as the sounds of nature, because I feel complete and utter silence is a bit unnatural and scary, haha.
But as far as being an INFP thing, I think it applies to everybody, but maybe more so to INFP and other introverts as it gives us a greater chance to calm down and recharge without distractions. Just a speculation.
    =)

I literally listen to music at any possible moment so, no, I don't really like quiet. The only quiet times I have are when I'm cuddling up with my cat. :D

However for peace, I also spend any possible moment I can alone. I'm so introverted that if I could I'd just become a hermit and spend my entire life living with animals and away from all of humanity.

The buzz from the computer is to much noise for me. However, I do enjoy hearing the birds chirp. But no music or TV most of the time. And people yakking in my face suffocates the life out of me. Let me have my peace and quiet and I am just fine. I like it so quiet I can hear a fly walking access the room.

I am in total agreement with Blue Butterfly. I also think that as our life changes, so do our preferences.

Sometimes when people are talking to me I think in my head, will you please just be quiet and go away because I don't really want to listen or talk to you right now. Especially when people are just talking about nothing, or nothing that interests me anyway.

I have similar experiences to this. I have certain friends that I just do not feel like talking to a lot of the time. I cannot stand conversations that are about absolutely nothing.

I like natural silence. Not the artificial test type silence where you can feel the tension in the air being amplified by the lack of noise because whoever steps out of line will be judged, but the silence you get from walking down an empty street: perhaps the sound of a breeze, a few rustled leaves, a car in the distance. I feel peace is much more valuable than quiet.

I have a roommate I hide from because she will trap you, man- you could be in the kitchen grabbing a glass of water, she'll ask you about a spoon, and an entire hour later you're STILL THERE trapped in conversation. Man I just have to wait til she's not around, and I can usually tell because she's a musical theater major and singing every single minute of the day she isn't sleeping. Jesus Christ.

Yeah, I definitely need peace and quiet. Living with five other people has been a nightmare this year, and like hell I'm putting myself through it again. >:|

I like to have some peace and quiet but not total silence, i dont mind it but Id rather have something in the background. Either music, tv with the volume lowered or just people outside.
