    A sense of awe

Hi - I'm very new here but, despite my preference for not putting myself out there, I've decided to ask a question.

I was wondering if any of you have experienced on occasion an overwhelming sense of awe? This can manifest itself as a sense of grandeur, of connectedness, of being aware of the vastness of the universe. I get it often in relation to being alone in nature and being taken over by the beauty I experience. I've likened this to a religious/spiritual sensation but without any connection to a god or higher being (I'm an atheist and fully believe that my experience is completely internal).

I was wondering if this was a common INFP trait or a me thing?

I don't really get inspired by nature that badly so it would be a you thing I'm thinking

All the time. All I need is a clear night or a bright, blue, cloudless sky and I have a massive dopey grin on my face and I'll be in the best mood for the rest of the day/night.

Just recently there was a sunset soooo beautiful... I was riding on a train back home, and i saw the red light fall onto crumbled buildings and new houses... And there were blue(!) clouds in the sky. I generally find blue clouds to be awesome.

I was in total awe. I was totally entranced by this. So much that i wrote a song. I still remember it all. It was just... wow.

But it wasn't a feeling of connectedness. Just awe.

I get intense moments of higher consciousness. Like, a heightened sense of "aliveness". And I feel totally content and at peace.
It usually comes off the back of a bad day, and it's usually when I am alone. Sometimes it occurs in a beautiful environment (and I wish I were in beautiful environments more) and when this happens, what first creates that sense of awe, is that I see/hear something better than an ideal. Nature to me, is the only thing that is breathtakingly perfect in the world.

But actually, now that I think about it, other things create that sense of awe. People who achieve great things through adversity, learning that there are others who see the world similarly to me... (hello nf's!) it just blows my mind.

Oh and If you really love feeling that sense of awe, get into astronomy :) looking at the moon through a telescope for the first time is breathtaking.

The stars are even more luminous in the countryside with plenty of fields to lay in and only coyotes to be wary of. Plus where I'm from is said to have had the most shoot stars (small asteroids) in North America (so the planetarium claimed), but there were a lot. I particularly like when the moon takes on different colors. Harvest moons, faded pale blue morning moons, some of a deep honeyed yellow..and added to all that, it's free.

I get a sense of awe when looking at a clear night sky or walking through woods or seeing a sunset (especially sunset on a beach). I feel so at peace yet at the same time it makes realize that I am such a small part of the universe. It definitely helps me to put life into perspective. It also does make me think about God and what He wants out of me and out of the universe in general.

Some pieces of classical music also give me a sense of awe. Saturn from Holst's The Planet always does this to me.

Maybe it is a personal thing but even so i have to say I'm the same.
Nature is a preserved, gentle flow of beauty with no need of curtains and blankets to heighten the scenery.

Nature is like a god itself, but it isn't really. It needs no super powers or anything in between to evolve and create what we live in today...

I'm not sure if it is a common INFP trait, you might want to hear what others might say, but I agree with you personally if it is not a trait.

Oh yes! That's basically an N thing hehe
But I think I've felt completely taken by the world's beauty and wonder pretty much everyday...I rarely get a great view of the stars, but I've gone into the countryside before and it's one of the most beautiful things!
This is one reas I'd never trade N for S...to be totally taken away by the world is awesome!

Oh...... just about every single second of every single day. But I often use the word Wonder.

Through my eyes - I live in a Wonder-Full World.

INFPs are known for this. It is definitely a trait. Per typelogic:

"...INFPs never seem to lose their sense of wonder. One might say they see life through rose-colored glasses. It's as though they live at the edge of a looking-glass world where mundane objects come to life, where flora and fauna take on near-human qualities."

I'll give you a real-time example - right now it's raining outside. I am not a fan of the rain. However, looking out the window now, even in weather that's not my fav, everything is still beautiful, green, blooming, the air has a great woodsy-scent and it's like being in the middle of a jungle with all the different bird calls I'm hearing outside right now. No doubt, I live in Eden.
