    INFP Values

So what exactly do INFP's value? I've always wondered on this issue since I've read the majority of all INFP's are relatively easy going "unless one of their values are violated". Are you consciously aware of these values or do other people have to implicitly bring them up and attack them in order for you to defend them?

I'm asking this because I've noticed that my Fi is quite non-existent, so perhaps my values are not that crystal clear and when most people tell me as to why I don't feel resentment when someone calls me this or that and I just tell them because I honestly don't feel as I should value those things as much as other people tell me I should.

    Any insight?

    INFP - The Idealists

I have a set structure of values I've developed. It's very complicated, but I do tend to protect them and uphold them. I try to be very open-minded, though. If I see that they have a point for holding a different belief, then so be it. But if it messes up with themselves and others' rights, or etc, I tend to have a hard time to let them go if they have an illogical and insensitive view point. I'm trying to fix that, atm, part of my value system too.

And there are so many rules, exceptions, complex labyrinths that make up my views.

Your values are what you spend time on. It's pretty much that simple. There's your stated values, what you think and tell everyone else you value. And then there's your real values, what your actions say you value.

    My values are very simple:

Family (I spend time as much time with them as possible)
    Personal Development and Growth
Stability (steady job. This wasn't important when I was younger when I temped for 5 years because I wanted the scenery to change every two weeks)
    Relationships

Also your beliefs come from your values. For example, I value relationships because it's relationships that bring in new ideas and new ways of thinking. So the belief that comes from that value is that I believe people are basically good. If I didn't than I would never meet new people or make new friends.

    INFP - The Idealists

Early Sunday morning and the coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet but -- the first thing that comes to mind for me is Family. I do what I can for *my family*. This includes an endless list of duties and jobs that would take all day to write up.

Then the next thing that comes to me is not to kill animals or humans with a gun or a bomb or any other implement of destruction.

Self Improvement? Eh. I'm more into increasing knowledge. I just read and read and read. Listen to Talk Radio and watch cool stuff on TV. Visit places I like.

Next in line is WONDER about the world, Optimism and stay away from extroverts (I must do this for PoM, especially if they are a yappin' and a clattering about).

Sheesh. It's a bit hard to explain. It's like I have this code inside of me that I was born with. What is right and wrong for me. There's really no thinking about it too much, I just follow it.

It would be interesting as an experiment to have several posts in the INFP section only, to test moral development or moral dilemmas of INFPs and view the different values we write about.

I value individualism.. being able to become whoever you want and believe what you want as long as you don't hurt another person. Thats all I can think of now.

Family is definitely very far from my values right now, but I'll add that I'm a 20 year old lady "living" at home, who makes sure she is almost never actually present at the house. My 16 year old sister is one of my best friends, but as for the rest of my family, I only do the barest of minimums to keep them happy and to show my gratitude for getting free room and board.

I'm uncertain as to what values are as well, but I'll go with INFPblog's definition and say:

    Autonomy
    Self Improvement/Personal Growth
    Relationships
    Passion
    Sincerity
    Clarity
    Curiosity/Learning/Intelligence
    Wisdom and Logic
    Humor and Playfulness
    Compassion
    Open-mindedness
    Awe
    Self-Reliance
    Humility
    Achievement/Ambition

Those last two seem contradictory? Yeah, they're hard to achieve simultaneously, but I am most impressed with individuals who have achieved incredible things, yet still keep a realistic view of where they fit in the grand cosmos.

independence, simplicity, creativity, age, and wisdom. also reading about values is always interesting i.e. nicomachean ethics, and benjamin franklin's virtues

For a long time I didn't know what my values were or why I became so angry sometimes and neither did anyone esle for that matter -- I just seemed to become "irrationally" angry out of the blue.

Now that I'm older and have more experience and also in part because of the MBTi I can identify my personal "triggers".

    *disrespect
    *rude behaviour
*not appreciating or valuing my efforts or work
    *Interrupting me when I'm speaking
*Telling me I shouldn't feel the way that I feel (that's a real grrrr...)
*taking advantage of people in any fashion

I'm sure you get angry at certain things and if you don't then those things don't matter to you.
