    Forgetful INFP's?

Is forgetting people's names a problem for other INFP's?
Sometimes people have to tell me WAY too many times -- Unless, of course I REALLY like them, then I remember right away, but that rarely ever happens.

For example: I worked with a guy for a year, saw and talked to him every day, even went out for beers with him and his brother a few times. Saw him about 6 months later and for the life of me...I COULDN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME!! I was SO embarrassed, he was insulted beyond belief.

    And how about dates?
    I always forget these too.
    Facts? Statistics?
This always gets me into trouble when I'm debating my INTP brother (on ANY subject) because I often get them "wrong" only by a little, but he jumps right on it and decides the whole idea or theory is "invalid" because of this. He gets stuck on the "details" I feel, while missing the "big picture" -- I feel.

Even after I've printed out the articles and tried to memorize the factual details, I soon forget them. This drives me mad.

So, my question is: How are other INFP's at remembering such things??? A.K.A. can I blame it on my "type?"

Sorry, I forgot who I am even. Just kidding but I do the same thing. I can't remember peoples names or dates. I am glad I am not the only one.

It really depends for me. I often have a few certain things that I always forget, but I can remember other things easily. For instance, if someone's named something like Tom or Joe, I can never for the life of me remember, but if their name's Desiré or Serenity, I'd have much more ease remembering it. I think this is possibly due to how much the thing I'm trying to remember intrigues me, but isn't that the same for most people? I don't know, but I do forget things, especially things that I've literally just done or been acknowledged of.

I forget a lot, even something I might have said a few hours ago. But I remember random, useless details/facts all the time.

I can have a very good long term memory, but only for certain things. Names and detailed facts (names and dates especially) are not those things. At the same time, I have the short term memory of a comatose goldfish.

my memory mystifies me. i forget names, especially in work environments, even after months of constant interaction. i don't know the birth dates of ANYONE in my extended family. i can't remember what i ate yesterday. i'll forget halfway into a room what i needed in there, or when talking forget midsentence what my point is because another thought has entered my headspace.

i second being a comatose goldfish. a senile comatose goldfish. with a gimpy fin.

oddly, i can have great long-term memory for certain things. i have one memory of being in a baby crib. i remember dreams from when i was younger than five. i've noticed my memory is very dreamlike and abstracted like watercolour running together, unless i'm emotionally invested. in the latter case, my memory works in the language of Si and is incredibly vivid. i remember my travel and music memories in full detail, in terms of colour, the olfactory, temperature, what i was feeling, where everything was located spacially, the direction of the wind. all of which normally fades for me unless i'm emotionally rooted in the memory somehow while it's happening.

i do have a theory that all my brain turbines for basic daily short-term memory are useless because music is consuming all the energy. if i hear a song i haven't heard in 10 years, i will know every single lyric instantly. if i pick up an instrument i haven't played in 5 years and begin playing something i used to know, i will remember the chords instantly. and yet it happens often that i forget whether i've brushed my teeth and have to brush them again. it disturbs my family.

does anyone have a link to that website with SP, SJ, NT, and NF forms of memory? i think NF memory was termed 'oceanic'. curious to read that again, and will do a happy dance should anyone find it.

My memory is terrible. I only remember thins I really care about. If I meet somebody that I really like I'll usually remember their name. But if I casually meet somebody who doesn't leave much of an impact...you can ask me 5 minutes later and I won't have a clue. I also don't remember dates...years....ages when things happened... But then when it comes to music, something I'm passionate about, I know all the lyrics to bazillions of songs. I know who all the band members are...and on and on. I can remember every detail when it comes to my favorite band. Weird.

Hellz yeah! My memory isnt terribly good.......err, can be quite embarrassing when someone comes up to me and says hello and starts talking and I am smiling away desperately trying to remember who they are LOL'z. Sometimes the penny drops after a minute or two but usually a day or so later......the bulb flashes in my mind "Ah of course, I remember now."

Same here. Unless I like someone, or really interested in something, there is no chance I will remember it in a 5min. I forget Birthdays.. There's this friend from college, really feels bad, if someone forgets her b-day, so when I called her 1 day before THE day, I only came up with: oh, at least I was the first!
Anyway, so I keep notes and mark calendars. And I'm not that busy to forget, it's just..meh
