I'm not very into video games and actually I've grew a little sick of them, but I like rpg and adventure games.
Those ones where you have to overcome obstacles to accomplish a mission, such as Tomb Raider for example. I also love Mario games, specially Mario RPG, Mario Kart and Mario Party; Zelda and Kingdom Hearts.
Guitar Hero can also be so addictive!

Also, Online RPGs are cool. It's much more fun when you can play in groups.
Not so much the leveling up, but creating a background history for your character and role playing... immersing into the fictional world...

Im into videogames. I used to be into them a lot more though, too much more. Video games still are one of the few things I enjoy.

I love strategies. The "races" available seem to matter a lot to my enjoyment. The more imaginitive and different from each other the better. Good races should have histories, causes and identity. I want to feel like I'm commanding real people (or real aliens!). This may be the reason I do not enjoy Supreme Commander despite its epic gameplay. Although the three sides are fairly different, their units all look exactly the same. I dont *feel* Im commanding the Aeon Illuminate, I feel like im commanding a bunch of toy robots. Company of Heroes is great for making me feel like im commanding real squads, especially when the NPC's give random comments:

"If a mouse farts in this god damned minefield, I want his ass blown sky high!"
"When you hear that clicking sound, you have to reload!"
"For godsakes private, tie your shoe laces."

I like FPS's as well, I used to play alot of online multiplayer but it consumed too much of my time. I dont allow myself to play MP games anymore.

Love RPG's, especially when I can "play" the evil or pure good character. Not hot on the grinding though.

Video games are no different from movies or TV that has violence in it. Also, I know you might disagree and 10 years ago this would sound crazy to some, but I think video games are a new art form. I love playing games and have been playing them since I got my first giant, clunky, gray GameBoy
However, my first love will always be music.
That's why I said the "idea". I also think it desensitizes people. I don't like violence in movies or on TV either, although it is slightly more "passive" as you just watch and don't act it out. I tend to avoid it also though.

Anyway, I don't mean to be the downer, I just thought the OP was looking for different perspectives from INFPs.

I can agree with the Conqueror description. I love strategy games -- Risk, Chess, Shogun, Axis and Allies, Conquest of the Empire, Stratego-- I can play for hours. Civilization III was my favorite video game as a kid.

"Pure" games I like a little bit, though I'm not enthusiastic about them- stuff like Settlers of Catan, Powergrid-- it just seems like the blind application of an algorithm. I need to have eliminable opponents, an element of strategy, and an element of chance. And by strategy, I mean the ability to set objectives, develop strategies, and employ tactics-- not just mechanically following builds.

RPGs and FPSs, I usually hate. My INFP brother loves them-- stuff like WoW, Halo, and Everquest. Bah!

I was reading some random blog one day, and it had an interview in it between a teen (I'm 19) and someone who I believe was in their 30's or 40's. Anyways, the teen made some comment about the "culture of their generation", and the older one replied "if you call watching TV a culture." That hit me really hard, and I thought about it for a while and realized that most of the people around me had lives completely based on TV culture. That kind of sickened and disturbed me. since then, I have actively watched probably about 3 hours of TV a week or less. My parents (oddly enough, kind of a role reversal) are especially bad for this. It's like they live their dreams through a tv screen, if you know what I mean.

Sorry for the rant lol, it's just something that's been bothering me.
LOL. I really like this post. Our generation really is a tv culture, luckily the only show I ever was addicted to was prision break. When i watch tv 99% of the time i'm on history, discovery (or like channels) or espn.

At my house we have an HD projector, 50 inch flat screen, surround sound, blu ray player, and 37 inch flat screen (the last 3 are mine). And I watch 0 hours of tv a week... We got rid of our comcast cable because we didn't watch it enough to make it worth paying for. I do love movies though and I try to get one in every couple of weeks, but my schedule is rough.

Sorry, putting thread back on track...video games :) A lot of people stereotype me for a HUGE gamer and so they ask me questions about games...my answer is always "i dunno." Its very amusing that its these people that live, breathe, and dream games - yet they don't think they're whole life is centered around them.

I could start to argue with you on that, but I'll spare you
I wrote a paper on why video games do not cause violent behavior and does not "desensitize" people to violence, so I get kind of fired up when people say that they do.
And yeah you're right about the OP.

If you like JRPGs set in modern day Japan with occult overtones and occasionally brutal difficulty, then yes, the Persona games are great. Easily one of my favorite RPG series out there.

I love RPGs and sim games, the ones where you build and manage cities or what have you. I agree that I love a good atmosphere or story. Really I could play most any games, regardless of genre.

As I get older I notice I sway more towards the pick up and play games, puzzle games. I just feel less like investing 80+ hours into a game like I could when I was younger.

    Also, I'm a big Mario fan. :)

I am a gamer to the core. I want to go into the game idustry when i finish school. Action/Adventure, RPG and shooters are the majority of what i play. I just got Mass Effect 2, after finishing Dragone Age (bit of a Bioware kick) and I am looking farward to Bioshock 2 and FFXIII.

I grew up on video games, but I'm not as devoted as I was as a kid. I still like RPG's, though. They combine two things I like: a long narrative and work. It's like reading a book, but you have to level up your characters.
