What is your meaning of life?

Well I know this question is pounded into the ground: What is the meaning of life?

Personally I have come to the conclusion, there are numerous answers. The meaning of life is different to each person. I think the meaning of life is to find your own meaning.

So what do you think is your meaning of life? In other words, what is your purpose in life? Maybe you have multiple meanings or are not sure yet.

Bonus Question: If there was just one answer for what the meaning of life is, what do you think it would most likely be?

I can't wait to read your answers!

That's a difficult one... Part of me wants to say that finding meaning in my life is the meaning of life itself, but that isn't a particularly interesting answer.. If you mean what is my calling in life, I don't have one. I'm not one to go out and change the world (as much as I'd like to, I feel a little powerless relative to the influence I'd like to have).

I just want to be happy and I want others close to me to be happy. It might sound a little trite but it just seems like most people aren't happy these days. The obligations of everyday life can erode one's dreams. I don't want to be afraid to dream again. I want anything to seem possible and I want others to feel that way too.

The problem with the "find your own meaning" rule is that it opens the door for a lot of nefarious actions (one's meaningful life might entail rape, torture, and murder).

I'm going with "give people hope."

I have been trying to answer this for myself and for a long time and for now I have come to a conclusion:

    - The meaning of life is to find my meaning of life, to really live and to see for myself who I really am. (yes no ideals of helping others here)

My whole outlook is surprisingly well formulated in this song:

    "Run Baby Run"

    Love can be so strange
    Don't it amaze you?
    Everytime you give yourself away
It comes back to haunt you
Love's an elusive charm and it can be painful
    To understand this crazy world
    But you're not gonna crack
    No you're never gonna crack

Run my baby run my baby run
Run from the noise of the street and the loaded gun
Too late for solutions to solve in the setting sun
So run my baby run my baby run

    Life can be so cruel
    Don't it astound you?
So when nothing seems too certain or safe
    Let it burn through you
You can keep it pure on the inside
And you know what you believe to be right
    So you're not gonna crack
    No you're never gonna crack

Run my baby run my baby run
Run from the noise of the street and the loaded gun
Too late for solutions to solve in the setting sun
So run my baby run my baby run

Find out who you are before you regret it
Because life is so short, there's no time to waste it

So run my baby run my baby run
Run from the noise of the street and the loaded gun
Too late for solutions to solve in the setting sun
So run my baby run my baby run
Run my baby run my baby run
Run my baby run my baby run
Run my baby run my baby run
Run my baby run my baby run

The meaning of life is 42. Kidding...But my meaning of life is to learn as much as I can and to have fun doing it. To me, life is about making mistakes and learning from them. I think this is why I so readily forgive my friends when they wrong me. Because I feel deep within my heart that they didn't do it intentionally and they regret it. Life is about helping each other. The more we're there for one another (including those we don't know) the better off the human race will be. I think I'll stop there or I'll go off on a tangent.

I prefer to leave meaning ambiguous, it's freeing, and I'd probably just change my mind in 5 minutes.

I'm not a super academic philosopher, but I'll give it a shot....

I find it interesting that you changed the article "the meaning of life" to a pronoun, "your meaning of life" and "my meaning of life." I think that having the article "the" in front of "meaning of life" makes a subtle, but significant difference.

The meaning of life implies that there is a universal meaning, to which all humans subscribe. It is an absolute term which engulfs every other meaning of life out there, and sets itself up as the truth by which everything other must submit and acknowledge as the ultimate truth about the meaning of life.

Whereas, having a pronoun in front, such as "your" or "my" puts a subjective spin on the object of the sentence. So ultimately, the individual sets him/herself as the ultimate source of the meaning of life.

Do I think that there is ultimately only one truth of the meaning of life? Yes, because the nature of truth forces me to continually investigate until there is no more investigating to be done. I think some people call it the law of non-contradiction.

I think a lot of people just want to be happy, but they don't really define happiness in light of moral or spiritual truths, whether it's due to ignorance, or laziness, or antipathy, or whatever. Maybe my cultural bias is showing, but then again, why are we even discussing this? I mean, every culture comes up with something to explain their existence, right?

Anyways, there's a lot of investigating and soul searching one must do before this can be answered adequately.

I'm an existential nihilist so I have arrived at that answer as well. I think we create our own meanings in life (and ascribe life meaning in various ways) and that's what constitutes our entire culture.
