    INFP or INFJ?

    Conflicted INFP/INFJ here..

I have sort of always assumed that I was INFP based on the tests I have taken. Every time I take it, it comes out that I am INFP. However, I recently read a post about a girl who had the same conflict, and someone had recommended that the break it down my cognitive function.

    INFP:
    Fi
    Ne
    Si
    Te

    INFJ:
    Ni
    Fe
    Ti
    Se

So despite the test results time and time again of the INFP, I truly feel that once you break down the functions that I am more of an INFJ, largely based on the fact that I tend to favor Fe over Fi. When reading more about the INFJ, it says they can often mimick other types (I once thought I was ENFP, too). I also read that INFJs are a bit messier than other J types (which makes sense to me, because I hate cleaning, but on that paradox, I hate living in a mess).

So what do you think? Anyone else have a problem differentiating between types, specifically these two? Is it common for INFJs to think they are INFP and vice verse? Any additional suggestions to help me find my "correct" type?

I wish I could help you more but I'm sorta going threw the same thing and I still can't quite determine my own type. I don't think that anyone can type you based on the little information that you've given. I also don't know you well enough to determine based on your posts. There is a subforum What's my personality type? that is dedicated to helping people figure out their type. A lot of people use this questionnaire when they make a post to help people determine their type:

    0. Is there anything that may affect the way you answer the questions? For example, a stressful time, mental illness, medications, special life circumstances? Other useful information includes sex, age, and current state of mind.

    1. Click on this link: Flickr: Explore! Look at the random photo for about 30 seconds. Copy and paste it here, and write about your impression of it.

    2. You are with a group of people in a car, heading to a different town to see your favourite band/artist/musician. Suddenly, the car breaks down for an unknown reason in the middle of nowhere. What are your initial thoughts? What are your outward reactions?

    3. You somehow make it to the concert. The driver wants to go to the afterparty that was announced (and assure you they won't drink so they can drive back later). How do you feel about this party? What do you do?

    4. On the drive back, your friends are talking. A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward reaction? What do you outwardly say?

    5. What would you do if you actually saw/experienced something that clashes with your previous beliefs, experiences, and habits?

    6. What are some of your most important values? How did you come about determining them? How can they change?

    7. a) What about your personality most distinguishes you from everyone else? b) If you could change one thing about you personality, what would it be? Why?

    8. How do you treat hunches or gut feelings? In what situations are they most often triggered?

    9. a) What activities energize you most? b) What activities drain you most? Why?

    10. What do you repress about your outward behavior or internal thought process when around others? Why?

Try to look closely at the cognitive functions. Or at least figure at what your inferior function is. If it's Se, you're an INFJ. If it's Te, then you're an INFP.

J is where you want to take control
P is where you can just accept it
I think. About as much as I know.

I used to think I was an INFJ but after looking at the functions, figured I was an INFP. I definitely use Ne over Ni.

I'm having this conflict, too. I get typed INFJ half the time, but a cognitive functions test shows that I'm higher on Fi. I'm just like you, preferring order and cleanliness, but organizing my personal space is usually low priority. I spend a lot of time thinking and connecting ideas, which makes me conversant with INFJs.

But I noticed that I was really into debating and politics when I was younger, and that showed a strong sense of internal values, even when others around me didn't see things my way, which may show that I'm Fi.

I used to gather people and help them form consensus and work together, so that may be an INFJ characteristic.

You should try reading up the differences. Go to: infjorinfp.com
It could get you more confused, but at least you'll be better informed.
