Look at various cartoons. If you saw some of them do not, well, find some animes, some of them have small eyes, and their faces don't turn into weird emotes. It really pisses me off, if you're going to hate anime, you can just hate any other cartoon out there.

For real, Shadow. You can't honestly say you believe that anime is the only type of animation which skews things out of proportion or makes artistic changes to enhance or exaggerate emotions, images, sounds, whatever.

Plenty of American cartoons had huge eyes, tiny mouths, disproportionate faces, hands with only three fingers, undefined legs, etc. So you can't really say that it's only anime. Of course, some anime has been known for its distinct style, but not all of them are drawn like that. There are several series and movies out there that have a much more realistic image.

Furthermore, I have to agree with Treebob. Anime emcompasses several different genres, it's simply a different "film-style". Without stepping on toes, I do think when people say flat-out comments like, "I hate all anime" it kind of makes me think they haven't really experienced very much of it. But that's beside my point.

As for squeaky voices, that really is just because the Japanese have different voices than most Americans. But again, there have been American cartoons with highly annoying and squeaky voices. Not to mention, you could watch the dubbed version and they usually have more tolerable pitches since they're American actors for the most part.

I love anime and manga, so maybe I'm a bit bias, but it sounds more like you aren't giving it a fair chance. Besides, Hentai (or anime porn) isn't any different than the porn we have here that's hand-drawn. The fact that it has it's own name isn't weird at all. I wouldn't refer to our porn as "a movie" anymore so than a Japanese people would say that anime is hentai. They are entirely different things. Yes, some anime has been redrawn by a different artist and marketed as porn, but that's because their copyright laws are greatly different than ours.

    TreeBob thanked this post.

I agree with imru 2. There are wide options of anime. For example Cowboy Bebop. The basics of the anime was three bounty hunters just trying to surivie hard lines of day to day. No magic, no crazed little kids(well Ed), no spirit powers. These characters came as "real people" each one was flawed, but they somehow manage to get past their mistakes. The squeaky voices depends on the voice actors many times with both American and Japanese cartoons are a hit or miss. The right combo can make a great cartoon or cock up the whole mix. I dabble in anime and manga, yet I do enjoy it. However, it's your opinion either way. You're either gonna like it or not, but you can check out a title..then go from there.

Look! Michael Jackson had an anime nose. A real-life cartoon character.

I do not appreciate this at all, since I enjoy strong female characters over the sissy ones in anime. I hate to generalize here, but it really seems true.

Almost entirely because of this rule and the feel that it creates, I do not like anime. I can't say this universally however; Death Note was actually very neat, though in the end the golden rule occurred, and the last half of the series was also really terrible.

    totally agree...
well it seems that there are some animes who doesnt match with that

anyway most of them are made for retarded teenage kids' masturbation and wet dreams (bleurghh)
everytime my gf wants me to see some anime i need a vomit bag for if some of those girls appears suddendly...
it also makes me want to grab an ax and fix the situation...
they seem to beg for a cruel death

Anime is like jazz: as much as I want to like it, I just don't.

Never really got into Anime but with that being said, it's like any other genre. There's some stuff I like and some stuff I don't like. I prefer older American animation (Batman:The Animated Series, X-Men, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, etc.) as my 2-D of choice but that's probably because I was born in the 80's and not the 90's. I do like Akira though and Princess Monanoke as well.
