I can be a little awkward at times in social settings, and then other times people mistake for being a full blown extrovert. I don't know but sometimes I just feel really wild and free.
I like awkwardness. It is a perfectly natural part of life. It should be enjoyed. *awkwardness insues*

I am socially qwkward only when in the company of peolpe I want to consider friends. Then each little gaffe grows and grows and grows - I guess that says that others, who gives a flip, I'll never see them again anyway. - its people I have an emotional investment in or want to have -and I become guarded.
My older son once asked me, Dad, to people say things just to be talking? I said yes - he thought a bit, and quite pained, said, Why didn't you ever tel me? Now, he has an IQ around 150-160, INFJ characteristics since first grade, highly developed sense of morality --He works long enough to pay bills and put up savings, then quits for several months. Drives a 20-year old pickup, balding, gray hair - alone and lonely. Because of inability to engage in meaningless chitchat.
Yes, absolutely...
But I learned to stop worrying and love my social ineptitude
You can eventually find others who value other aspects about yourself.
