Well I'm catholic so I actually do believe that we weren't meant for this world lol... But honestly, that's pretty much how I feel most of the time anyway. I'm okay with that. This world isn't exactly a place where I want to belong, considering how screwed up it is... Which reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
“Has this world been so kind to you that you should leave with regret? There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.” - C.S. Lewis
I think I was born too early. There's so much today that we're just now discovering. The elusive Higgs boson is a prime example of what I'm talking about. It presents the potential of a quicker means of traveling through space (and time travel if you want to believe it). A few days back, they discovered a likely possibility of "extraterrestrial" on one of Saturn's moons. What sorta depresses me is the fact I may never see these things pan out before I die. Only a few months ago, I read an article about Google wanting to fund space mining.
Every day, we race closer and closer to "The Singularity". For those who don't know what that is, it's when we develop a fully functioning AI capable of improving on itself. Being a Terminator fan, this sorta terrifies me but I'm also a supporter of the idea of Transhumanism (evolution through means of technology). This is something we might see happen very soon. However, again, I don't think I'll see the full benefits of it ever.
Maybe I've read too many books or watched too many sci-fi movies. I know it might sound crazy but I'm about 90% sure I'm not. I really do think I was born at least 200 years too early. This is just a small list. I could go on listing possibilities that I'll probably never get to see.
