    Learning... is there a limit?

Can anyone ever fully be understood though? Isn't learning a never ending process?"
    - By SargeMaximus

Dalien thought I should post this for discussion. It occurred to me that people have an idea that there is some "plateau" to achieve or reach and then things are put in perspective, or then one is "wise" or things like that. Like reaching this point is the goal of the journey in the first place, and this applies to anything. Since I don't believe that, I posted what is above, but I want to hear your thoughts.

The only limit to learning is the knowledge that you will not learn everything. But that is when we push beyond that and continue to learn.

Those who have reached the "plateau" of learning have lost one of the most essential facets of life: curiosity.

"People die when curiosity goes." ~Graham Swift

I insist on learning something everyday.. Even if it's just a word definition or some trivial fact.

Your brains information storage capacity is the only limit to learning.

Yes, there is a limit and you have reached it. STOP THINKING NOW!! :P

Well people like that are stupid :)

It reminds me of this song:

"..There's more to see than can ever be seen,
More to do, than can ever be done.
There's far too much to take in here,
Or to find that can ever be found..."

I think that's true. Just strolling around my neighborhood, there's some many things going on (not just with the people, but with the wildlife, the geology, the mechanical whatsis in each of the houses and the cars, the weather...) that I could study just my neighborhood for the rest of my life and never get bored. And my neighborhood is a itty bitty speck on the globe!

It's part of what I love about the world. There's always something just around the corner to explore. You may be able to hit a plateau with what's required for your career or place in life, but there's far too much to learn overall to ever see the end of it.

I'd heard that the brain's storage capacity was essentially unlimited and I'd also heard that the stuff that gets stored in long term memory is never lost short of brain damage, it just becomes more difficult to recall.

    I'm no expert though.

The one thing I can confirm is that there is a limit on how much information you can cram in there in an hour. My brain's still recovering from last night.

By improving your mind. ;) But seriously, I'm really starting to grasp this concept lately (and it's not easy for a type 6 lol) But my cousin tells me that my lack of structure has become my structure that most 6's have, and I think that is true. If someone or something is being limited I get frustrated. lol. So anyways, I guess the question becomes "what now?" I mean, now that I know there is no end, and I can enjoy life, what do I do with that? I feel the need to explore more than ever, and it's a wonderful feeling, but how does one keep from getting caught in the mediocrity this world presents us with?

That question what now? reminded me of this..
"Sixes are always aware of their anxieties and are always looking for ways to construct “social security” bulwarks against them. If Sixes feel that they have sufficient back up, they can move forward with some degree of confidence. But if that crumbles, they become anxious and self-doubting, reawakening their Basic Fear. (“I’m on my own! What am I going to do now?”) A good question for Sixes might therefore be: “When will I know that I have enough security?” Or, to get right to the heart of it, “What is security?” Without Essential inner guidance and the deep sense of support that it brings, Sixes are constantly struggling to find firm ground. "

But yes I agree that there is no limit to learning, I believe in learning, to me knowledge is power lol, one can never know too much :) we were all born with the ability to learn, why would that stop? I love to learn new things, I love expanding my mind, and I like to seek wisdom and truth. :) but yes I do agree that you cant cram alot of knowledge at once, you have to give your mind time to process the information, but to me our whole lives are a learning experience, and those that are too arrogant to learn more are limiting themselves. To me some of the wisest words ever said are.. "As for me, all I know is that I know nothing" -Socrates In fact there is so much that we dont know, all about the universe..its unfathomable!
