I personally think that the personality is much too complex to be able to pinpoint with a system such as this. If we wanted to represent personality accurately in a system, we'd have to dive much deeper than we have already. I think it's helpful as a basic guideline, but I agree, there's no proof that suggests that a person can't shift into a new personality.

Yeah I thought I was an INFJ for a long time and before that INFP. But I decided that ISFJ was closer based on Jung's description of the cognitive functions.

In reality I have no idea any more, the more information I receive the more convoluted my thought processes become. Complexity into obscurity with no practical use. The multitudinousness of my ideas is actually headache inducing, ive realised that many people with a seemingly concrete grasp of this theory and it's interpretations often dont question it the way I do and do not consider the variables the way I feel compelled to do, arrogant as that sounds it isn't intented that way.

My understanding of his work and this theory is based almost entirely on a series of eureka moments built upon accumulated information, that comes like a match flare in the dark but which then soon fades away, leaving a bare imprint, but taking everything of use.

The problem is I want set answers and I wont get them from a heuristic model which acknowledges the fluidity of people. To this end im not sure if MBTI or JCF were ever of serious use to me, I was never unhappy before, merely curious and my curiousity grabbed me and pulled me down the rabbit hole. But the rabbit hole is confusing and just when you think you have caught up with the rabbit, away he speeds again down some new avenue of understanding. I think it is a sobering fact that I am just limited in my intelligence and imagination and there is nothing I can do about that but accept it.

    INFJ - The Protectors

I understand that being an INFJ isn't as on point as it could be. I think INFJ/ENFJ/ESTP/ISTP/etc.. are very detailed generalized categories. Although they might be too general for everyone to all be considered the exact role-model of an INFJ , I personally believe it's the most accurate thing to work off of... And I really feel like being INFJ isn't that rare. I think an INFJ is so used to its strange habits/methods of thinking/etc... that they all DON'T need to know what they are. They're different and there isn't much you can do with that besides embrace it or wallow in it. I feel like it's only a rare type because not all of them give two shits to be labeled something they already are aware of (i.e. being "weird" "overthinking" "awkward"). When I finally took this test I felt relieved when I figured out what I was because I was always confused. I didn't know anyone that was like me and couldn't explain how I think..because I always seemed to contradict myself all the time...

But yeah I feel like because the stamp of "being rare" is placed on an INFJ there will be a few people out there that think there's just too many of them and it can't be true....I mean sure it probably isn't the most popular typology but there's MILLIONS of people on this planet. Being rare doesn't mean it consists of just 100 people per country. I think INFJ's are "hipsters" in a sense with how they firmly believe no one is like them...And it's really frustrating. I wish I knew more people that were like me..

    Over 7 billion, in fact.

There will be at least tens of millions of INFJs. We aren't all that ;)

    ISTP - The Mechanics

I'm beginning to wonder if I have my functions figured out (which I am fairly certain I do), but I have placed them in the wrong order. I have been exploring the possibility that I might be ISTP. In addition, although it's not very good "evidence", I have never tested as INFJ on a type quiz even once. I always, without fail, test INTP.

    What say you?

I've been testing INTP for half my life. I think it has more to do with the inadequacy of the questions than anything. I think FJ can easily appear Ti, especially in INFJs because they so value objectivity and fairness, and that's been throwing over my test results for half my life (along with some other critical factors).

I think you have to go by the functions. I'm certain now that I'm Ni-Ti-Fe-Se of some permutation, and I'm no doubt introverted, so that means INFJ or ISTP. I have a lot in common with ISTP and I sometimes wonder if I am one. It's been hard to type myself because I've seriously developed my Ti and Se over the years, through my own choice of activities and studies. But I don't think they're naturally my strongest functions. Ti doesn't describe how my mind most naturally works when it's just chillin' and being itself. Ni with Fe does. And learning about INFJ, especially through other INFJs, just accounts for things that most deeply represent who I am that I've never understood or even necessarily realized about myself before. I just thought I was weird and different and it was my problem to work out. Now I realize there's nothing wrong me with me, I'm just this unusual type that most people have little experience with and don't know how to understand.

So, what I'm saying is, if you're not sure, I recommend hanging around here and the ISTP forum for a while and see which one most feels like you, which one most profoundly describes who you really are.

    INTP - The Thinkers

It's not so much about function "order", and Ni-Ti-Fe-Se sounds like a true INFJ, whose tertiary is strong (it "inflates" from being the "relief" function, and can thus seem "stronger" than even a preferred function at times).

Now that my mind is clear, like, clear as it wasn't for years, I believe I'm naturally shifting to a Te-determined way of thinking and expressing. No forcing at all. A natural metamorphosis.

Yes, it's somewhat "sad" my mind and personality are getting stabilized only at 20 years old, but it's no problem. Better late than never.

Thank you! I think many people are surprised that at over 1k posts I still get uncertain every now and then... I think maybe I am in a state of denial heh
