    INFJ with really bad intuition?

    Hello guys!

Does anyone here feel like their intuition is really bad? I relate a lot to Ni in a sense that I think in symbols and pictures, I can see multiple perspectives and I have a very vivid imagination. However, I can't read people very well. My gut instincts are virtually nonexistent. I can read emotions really well but not"motivation" and I don't think I've got people figured out. I don't get vibes.. neither do I have "just knowing" moments you guys describe.

Is my Ni working subconsciously? Or is it just not a dominant for me, and I'm really an ENFJ? Is it crucial that an INFJ has great intuition?

No, you don't have to have pin-point Ni to be considered an INFJ. Decide on which function is in charge of the rest. Just because Ni bosses the rest of them around doesn't mean it knows what it's talking about.

MBTI is about preference not ability.

And for what it's worth, I think my Ni is pretty crummy--it's great to find hidden meanings, but sometimes I just think myself around in a circle, not too different from a dog endlessly chasing its tail.

Another thing to consider: some people don't recognize their dominant function since it's such a centered part of their personalities (not to mention Ni is introverted--good luck easily recognizing it). If you identify with the symbols and patterns characteristic of Ni, along with the perspective shifts, then my half-hazard guess is that you are one of us.

    Hope this helps!

You intuition could be bad at the moment simply because you have other factors steering you away. It could be your feelings or logical thoughts that are stemmed from overanalyzing.

If you have faith and trust your Ni 100% and are willing to accept whatever it directs you to (whether you may consciously like it or not) then more will be revealed to you.

Just wanted to agree with what's been said. Also, I think sometimes we can use Ni unconsciously. I know there have been times when people have told me that I had said something that was particularly uncanny or insightful. I had no clue I was doing it until it was pointed out to me -- if that makes any sense. Also, I wouldn't underestimate what you did notice about your intuition -- thinking in symbols and looking at multiple perspectives. Seems pretty intuitive to me.

Ni needs time to observe a person to come to a conclusion about them. You don't come to conclusion instantly. It also needs time to learn - you meeting different people and eventually seeing some patterns in their behavior.

Ni is an unusual beast. I don't think it will necessarily manifest in two people in exactly the same way.

I was reading a book on magic and neuroscience lately, where they delved into some of the deceptions that magicians employ to manage their tricks. They went into how the brain was formed through childhood - and it was basically a description of Ni - learning patterns and applying them to get a sense of what was going to happen. For most, this process slows considerably outside of childhood, and is overtaken by other processes.

In Ni doms, I don't think it slows down as much - for whatever reason. Perhaps the growth is sparked by going to new places and seeing new things, meeting new people, being exposed to different cultures, or even by just being a bit paranoid. To grow Ni, I believe one simply needs to remain aware and observe and reflect, and to have the will to see something in a different light. It's even better if you experience something directly.

I know at one point my intuition about people was fairly poor - notably in my early years. I was very innocent and had no understanding of selfishness, desire for power, sexual dominance, or what have you. I got a bit angry with myself and decided to try and be like the rest - though I think I went a bit overboard. I shrugged off all semblance of idealism and just explored the darker side. Predicting what people are going to do in general terms isn't exactly so difficult anymore, and comes somewhat naturally.

Ni grows with a sense of wonder, of awareness, of curiosity, of a desire to understand. A typical question one with Ni might ask oneself is - why the hell are my instincts so bad with these people? ;)

I used to feel that I had terrible intuition. However, it seems to have improved as I've gotten older. I think part of that is my learning to trust my hunches, but I also have more hunches now than I did when I was younger. Perhaps as others have already said, as I matured I encountered more people, more situations, and more patterns, which has helped me learn to predict these things.

I'd like to think my intuition is pretty good. I've always held this assumption however. I'm an observer by nature so I pick up on things easily. The only way to increase your intuition (to my knowledge) is to 1) research and learn more and 2) get out and experience more.

myosotis - This can certainly happen to any INFJ, or any person, actually. I have found that Intuition is only as fantastic as the capability a person has to translate the images / messages from within. And to then further weave meaning into a coherent story to share with others or the self. This may take either talent that someone is naturally born with. Or several years of understanding many things: how to communicate well, good vocabulary, having an understanding of how people perceive stuff, being able to describe symbolism, so often a good background in literature or spiritual verse is good, so reference points can be made to charter the unknown. I'm not sure if I'm saying this right. But you may get the picture. Intuition without the proper focus can lead a person quite astray. I say it's best to be discreet about these things. Often people don't comprehend it anyhow. Sometimes part of this issue is about becoming objective, and a good listener, to hear that voice from within. Many external distractions and stress can disrupt this process.

Perhaps a simple one case scenario example off the top of my head - Like if I have a dream of / or thought / or vision (all three have different meanings too), well I dream frequently of a forest, and I come across say, Lord Buddha meditating in the forest. Or if I see an angel. With some research, or prior knowledge of my own life, I kind of know partially what direction or meaning the vision was about. Like recently, Angel Michael visits, or specifically with Dieties, how they are positioned, like in which mudras their hands are positioned, and where they are when they are seen has great meaning.

myosotis, I'm not sure where you are going in this Thread. Firstly, I will say to stop comparing to others. I'm not sure how old you are, but these types of sensitivities may grow over time for you. I don't feel it is necessary to have some fabulous Intuitive power to be an INFJ? I think that has to do with cognitive function stuff. There are many who are experts on here, I am no expert on that, still yet learning (:

I would for you assess, why is this topic even interesting for you? Do you feel you need a stellar ability to read others? Will it help you to do so? Is this about self protection? Do you feel you want to increase your own powers? Perhaps take up more spiritual practice, not for the purpose of attaining deeper vision, but that is one way I am sure that these types of abilities are increased in a good way. The Ego way also works (developing subtle abilities without acknowledgment that all universe's energy is God's), but that may take up your own energy resources in the long run. Lots to say on this topic! But no formal expert. I know a formidable Intuitive in person, so I get the gist of a lot of his abilities, he says I have intuitive ability that can be developed, but I am just a small fry compared to him. And I don't desire to 'know' as he does.

It is true, sorry to be cliche, but in many cases 'not knowing' many things can be blissful. Be happy wherever you are in this spectrum, likely you are where you need to be in the big picture. At the capacity of understanding required for your development on your path in life. Sometimes it depends on other personality stuff also. For example I have Water element (Moon in Cancer), and apparently, I have been told this is where a lot of my Intuitive power comes about.

    Malovane
has this similarly. We haven't gotten down to the details, but he an I can literally communicate without words, like instinctively kind of. Not fully yet, but time will tell. I can do this also for example with Surreal Snake. And I've always said, INFJ males have some out of the ordinary abilities, yet are modest about them. But for you, I'm not sure, it may take time to develop. Also the transition hearing the message and acting on it, not sure what is going on in your head there too. I call it 'subliminal messaging' not sure if there is a formal name for this! I communicate with whomever I can this way, I find it saves, e-mails, paper and phone calls (I think people like this 'find' each other somehow). Rather cool. ENFJs have pretty good intuition also, from the ones I know? But it depends on similar factors though. I look at various patterns, and ways of looking at things. I wish I knew more of psychology, but that will come in time. As needed, I suppose!

ertertwert - You are pretty awesome too. I won't go into natural connections formed amongst Fire element natives, as to take any topic off subject. For some Fire element persons, Intuition is like 'breathing', so it may not be known or questioned until later in life. I grew up just 'assuming' that everyone knew what I knew and felt what I felt, duh! But there are quite a few factors going on with you also. We must discuss! Do you ever get sleep? tee hee

Unless you have that 'pecking-bird' thing by your computer clicking on the 'Thanks' button. You are so polite always thanking posts. Recall, that is one of my favorite episodes of the 'Simpsons'! Homer decides to become obese so that he can work at home, and does not want to stay by his computer, so he gets that mechanical 'pecking-bird' thing to click on buttons while he was away from his desk! There was almost a meltdown at the Nuclear power plant in Springfield! hahaha

Ok kids, please disregard this message if you are too young to recall all of the Simpson's cartoon episodes! But I'm sure you appreciate this joke, ertertwert. Whenever I enter these kind of Threads, I feel kind of at 'home', high intuitive persons seem to frequent them, I 'KNOW' who you are! muhahaha! ok, not so good at evil laugh.
