If I can't see something coming, it sucks, bad. Usually that causes me to be real angry and I have to decide what to do with that anger. Usually I channel it into working out.

If I can see something coming I do try to prepare myself for it. What can I do? What can I avoid? If something will help to better prepare me for that time, I will do it or try it. Laying some groundwork so to speak seems to help me if I know something tough is going to happen. It's not easy once it comes, but it's definitely easier than if you are caught blindsided by something.
