    Introverted Intuition vs. Extraverted Intuition

I was wondering what the differences are between Introverted Intuition vs Extraverted Intuition ?

My view is that they differ in the problems they attempt to solve

Introverted Intuition - attempts to solve problems related to the inner workings of people

    whereas

Extraverted Intuition = attempts to solve problems related to things relating to things in the outerworld like a more efficient way to do something

    Is this correct?

I think of Ni as an architects plans. Concrete, building out, bricks one-after-another. Future-oriented, but in a kind of defined linear way. I gather lots of evidence, and start to form definite conclusions. Decides what will be. I may have many possibilities, but start to reject them as they don't seem to fit my concrete idea. Ni starts to close down onto a small number of ideas. Ni likes to rule out what is not possible.

I think of Ne as an architects sketches... like of the outside of the building, the landscape, the colors, the textures. It is future-oriented, but novel, aware to unknown options, changing. Finds common threads among many ideas. Likes to consider multiple possibilities at once. Ne likes to leave open the number of ideas. Ne likes to think of what is possible.

That's my understanding of Ne and Ni. But I am also unclear on how Intuition really reacts with your actual environment, and helps you problem-solve. It seems so seamless to me... I'm not really aware of what's going on. I think it needs another function to act with?

You two mirrored my thoughts exactly. I was just about to write up a response, but then I thought, Nahhhh.... Vel can take care of it. She knows more about them than I do.

However, I do have a useful link. Here is a good discussion about the two intuitive functions on the INTJ forum. LINK!

Ni comes up with ideas within the box
Ne comes up with ideas outside of the box

Ni generates that one perfect "A ha!" moment idea
Ne generates several possible ideas to pick from

When talking to a person with Ni, if you ask them how they made a decision they may say that they "just knew" it was the right decision to make or that it just "felt right".
When talking to a person with Ne, they may appear a bit scatterbrained, as their thoughts and ideas can be all over the place. "So I think we should go for a ride out to the lake... So I have this concert going on in my head right now and Poison is now playing 'Talk dirty to me'". (The randomness is more difficult for me to come up with because, well, I use Ni not Ne)

A person with Ne is a bit obvious to notice because they'll generate several ideas. They may appear like an Se type, but they are more focused on ideas than physical impulses. You can have weird random conversations with them and then turn it into a philosophical conversation somehow.

A person with Ni is more difficult to pin-point because its introverted, but basically if you spot someone that appears to have very good instincts at reading people and situations, often have the "words of wisdom", and can easily have philosophical conversations then you probably found a person with Ni.

Well I can tell you from my personal view what it is like with a very active Ne... I am always scanning my environment trying to make connections between things that most would consider disjointed... It is like a constant search for finding meaning and connection between many random elements. Like everything has a cosmic connection one way or another. Also I like throwing the rules and standard procedures out the window and entertain many other possibilities to form theoretical solutions to complex puzzles of many sorts... Do that in relationships as well always scanning the horizon for more possibilities...

very true, in my example i think i related Ni with F whereas Ne with F would also solve problems related to people just in a different manner etc and vise versa in my Ne example

yea think of a bunch of boxes connected with lines. Each box is an idea.

Ni takes apart the possibilities of idea itself

Ne connects the boxes to each other

I like the way someone described Ni that it is like a tree and we start with the branches and work our way back to the roots ie, we project the possibilities and then work them backwards as to how we can make things happen from where we are now.

As for Ne, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around it. Oftentimes it seems to be a bunch of random unrelated thoughts but surely there's a method to their madness! They must start at the root and aspire for the branches.
