    INTJ - The Scientists

My fiancée is an INFJ and I'm an INTJ. We work incredibly well together. Here is a very simplified difference between the two of us: (This may not be the same for everyone but maybe the general idea of it)

We are generally the same (besides the whole "colder" and "gentler" thing) but here is where it breaks up. She, the INFJ, wants to "fix" the world; to "fix" society and all the people in the world because she cares. I, the INTJ, want to fix the "materialistic" things for efficiency; to provide a better system for all or even myself because I also care but because we are impersonal, it can come off like we don't care.

We both want to "fix" things. INFJ wants to fix the community. INTJ wants to fix everything else around it FOR the community whether it be a company, group of friends, or personal circle of people. Because INTJ's are impersonal, they skip the whole "people matter" part. Because INFJ's are so personal, they skip the whole "how it works" and focus on "who it works for".

Just like my signature says, "He who has a WHY can endure any HOW". The INFJ is the "WHY". and the INTJ is the "HOW".

I can't believe so many people see INTJs and INFJs as being so similar. I know they're both Ni dom, but besides that... they strike me as so radically different. Maybe I've just had different experiences than most, but I don't think I could ever confuse an INTJ for an INFJ or vice versa.

No, I don't think we could ever be confused, either. We present too differently for that. People are always surprised to meet me if they've met my INTJ husband first, because he's been described as a "curmudgeon" and people often describe me as warm and friendly. It's just that in my experience, the types work so well together, as @Csyythe said. We understand each other's needs. In my husband's and my case, we have very similar needs and values, but we approach them in different ways.

A picture is worth a thousand words in my humble opinion.

I sort of know one INTJ in real life and he spent an afternoon calculating pi. I find that pretty cool, yet it's not something that I would find amusing enough for a whole afternoon.

I'm INFJ, but sometimes I sure do like to geek out like an INTJ.

If you want to learn an easy way to memorize PI to 30 decimals, Consider this sentence:

NOW, I, EVEN I, WOULD CELEBRATE IN RYHMES INEPT, THE GREAT IMMORTAL SCIENTIST, RIVALED NEVERMORE, WHO, IN HIS WONDROUS LOVE, PASSED ON BEFORE, GAVE MEN HIS KNOWINGS, HOW TO CIRCLES MENSURATE!

Count the letters of each word and that represents one digit

Yet they worked as an effective team to defeat Voldemort!

Though I am most definitely a Hufflepuff.

I read somewhere online that snape could be considered the only possible NT in the entire series due to his inventive capabilities with potions whereas there is little originality of the scientific kind during the 7 books snape is an exception.

Yeah, it's not a very NT friendly book. I mean, the hero is a dumb, privileged jock, and this is supposed to be a good thing.

Snape's ok, though not exactly representative: Professor McGonnagall, though, she could really be an INTJ. Or maybe ENTJ.

i had McGonagall pegged as more of an istj, rule bound, authoritarian but with a good heart behind the stern visage.

    Well, she's definitely got Te.
She's not so S as Hermione...She could be a less strong S or an N, but her character isn't so developped that it is easy to tell. But she would be far closer to normal INTJs - Snape is the whole sarcastic, bitter, vengeful, constantly angry anyone who is evil must be INTJ stereotype thing rather than really looking at what INTJs are.
