We change all the time, either consciously or unconsciously.
I don't need a specific thing to determine me to change. I change just because I feel it so. I allow every bit of me to change when I feel that this is what I want to do.
well stated collossus.
One person I know said this at one time: "We change only because we have learned enough to do so, or are hurt enough we have to." While I do agree with collossus, For me, what my friend said has held true for me really.

I don't think we ever change(except through very traumatic experiences), we just mature. For example, I used to be a very shy introvert when I was younger but now I can pretend I'm social and get along with most people but I'm still an introvert. We learn to use all our natural skills and become adept at using them, like a person being oblivious in how to play the guitar, she needs to make lots of mistakes, get up whenever she falls down and keep playing until she masters it.
all can be changed, and to be in harmony with the world, we should and have to change to a certain degree, because change is constant. however i think that there is a deep set core of dispositions that are within each person, and are not likely to change over a lifetime. it takes effort to change, most people don't realize they have to change, or when they do, they don't want to put forth the effort to do it, so then they remain comfortable as they are.
i can be happy about something, i suppose...for example, in me, at my deepest level there is peace, contentment and serenity, even though outside of this, i can experience depression, and be unhappy about a few things in my life, that constant within me always is maintained...sometimes people are the opposite, within they are not really nice, and can have all kinds of masks over top of that, so that they can live in the world, and still get their needs met.
change is usually brought about by a re-occuring problem or issue, mine or someone elses (because sometimes if an external event or person with an issue keeps on running into me, i see that as a sign that something is happening, that i have to become aware of and fix. usually the issue or problem is unpleasant, so that may motivate me to focus on change more...otherwise, i prefer to go with the flow in life.
Yes, it may be the way you said, but it is not comfortable for what we pretend we want from life.
Do you really need to get your fingers burnt when you felt the fire would hurt you before the actual accident? Do you really need to feel hurt to learn it is not benefical for you?
We already know everything. We just need to remember. In order to learn, we change our perspective all the time as we evolve, it is just that when we have enough knowledge, we may afford to do bigger steps which would translate in the conscious change.
We change all the time, because there is not any single moment when you stop learning.
pretty deep Collossus. this comment brought me back away from "experience" mode to actually thinking and feeling what i need to know from within, because we do know already what we need to know, and we don't have to experience everything first hand.
can you elaborate more on this "changing perspective" and bringing about "conscious change" stuff? maybe with an example? if you have a moment?
