Yes I started running 5 years ago at the age of 48, and now I actually am the director of a running program in my county. I do a lot of races, the longest being half marathons. I am running a marathon in October, but it is a team race so I only have to run 1/4 of it. I always wanted the 26.2 decal on my car, but never wanted to run a marathon, so I figure this is the best way to do it.

I love coming up with training programs and I love racing, even though I get really nervous (I don't know why I get nervous, I never plan to actually win.) I am a really slow runner, always at the back of the pack. I always run outside, never on a treadmill. Until I moved a few months ago I ran on a great trail along the edge of a big river. It is meditative and spiritual for me to run outside.

But the best part of running for me is directing my running group and showing older men and women (mostly women in their 50s and 60s) that they can run long distances. It is very rewarding for me to see the pride and joy on their faces when they finish a long run.

    Do you run?

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes I do run. I've run properly since an early age (about 13), although I wish I started even earlier (maybe 5?).

Now, I run 5 kilometers somewhere (usually a park) a few times a week. I used to do a lot of races (10 km more or less, never did a marathon yet), but now I just run alone "for fun".

I run with music, and weather permitting.

The motivation for me to run is to see my improvement over time. Or just simply that I have completed something in my life that I could document. Also probably prevents any depression.

I consider myself a cyclist first and foremost, but I log between 10 and 15 miles per week on the giddy-up sticks. As the weather gets cooler I run more than I ride.

I especially love running when I am travlling for business; it is a great way to explore new areas. I hate treadmills, though, I need to be outside. When I'm running I usually listen to music - typically aggressive rock to get me pumped up!

I just ran a Tough Mudder last week and I've got a half-marathon coming up next month. I can't wait to get my "13.1" sticker!

Yes. I run on average 3-5 times per week. I also cycle too. I cringe when I see people cycling on the road.. On the wrong gear.

I got into running last year and usually try to run around 5k at least 3x a week. I run with music to keep my mind off other things and to motivate me. Trying to train for a 10k right now, but it's so hot! I really enjoy how I feel after my run - refreshed, strong, and almost up to do anything for the day!

"I don't think jogging is healthy, especially morning jogging. If morning joggers knew how tempting they looked to morning motorists, they would stay home and do sit-ups." - Rita Rudner

...and that's all I gotta say about that.

Sprints here and there, spontaneously. I cycle or walk everywhere anyway.
