Can You Exercise Everyday? 7 Days a Week?

And no, I don't mean the mild walking around the house, climbing the stairs, and all that. I mean, REALLY working out to the point that you're efficiently sweating and panting.

I asked my friend this the other day and she's like, "No, don't do that. Your muscles need to rest."

I'm starting to like working out, though. Yes, I get tired. Yes, I sweat and feel gross afterward (Nothing a shower can't fix), but I also feel confident afterward and move a little more graceful. I wish I can feel this all the time!

So, in my case in which I'm doing cardio and resistance training, can I do it for 7 days a week? Or am I just not cut out for that type of intensity? For reference, I'm naturally non-athletic.

    Thanks!

Yep. As long as it doesn't hurt, I don't think there could be any problem with it.

I do cardio one day and muscle building the next. Erry day. It can be done.

I do easy/chilled exercise like yoga but I don't assign a schedule to it, so if I miss a day or 2, I don't beat myself blue about it, I just carry on where I left off because the more I self criticize for not following through consistantly, the less likely I will feel to carry on. I want to make sure its fun not a chore.

@ForsakenMe I've been meaning to ask you how your workouts have been going! Pretty good apparently! :) And yes, it can be done!

I worked out HARD today, friend! :D I felt great afterward! That's why I made this thread... because I'm really starting to love how working out feels for me.

I lost 40 lbs in 5 months by walking everyday for 40 minutes. It's definitely possible.

Give yourself a break if you think you need it. If you're also doing strength training with cardio (full-body exercises, such as weighted squats, deadlifts, lunges and rows.), there definitely should be some time off for your muscles to recover. You probably don't need a rest day if you work out less than 3 days a week with the strength training.

If it's high intensity interval training, be careful and aware of your body's reactions to things. If it hurts too much, stop, and try again tomorrow, or even the next day.

I have 2 strength training days, and 4 cardio/hiit days, and 1 rest day. :)

A lot of beginner exercisers like to overdo it and get burnt out. Don't be one of those! I'm definitely one of those. I always end up going, ''It's all or nothing!!'' BAM. Hellooo shin splints!

    Yet another fitness thread! Whoop!

Yes, it's possible - and encouraged - to do cardio everyday. I myself do it on top of 3 days of being in the gym too! ;) It's rather curious, people say you have to live in the gym to get a good body but it's really not true. And yes, the reason why you feel so rediculously good after every workout is cause your body is rewarding you for your effort with endorphins. It's the bodies way of saying "Good work for moving your ass!". These are the same chemicals your body releass when you take ecstasy if I'm not mistaken. Only escstasy releases like a whole buttload of them while the body only dispenses a bit.

Also note that there is a way to get high, technically, while running. It's called 'Runners high', and it's very...stimulating. It's like a minor euphoria. Not even kidding. Look it up.

To actually achive it, you have to be running a good while, around 40 minutes I feel is usually a good time. I run around 10 km in that time. So, start out slow, it's very common for people to get fatigued in the first minute. After about 2-3 mins, drastically increase your speed (not sprinting thou) for a few minutes until you actually start to feel the heartrate pumping and the fatigue starting to creep up on you. Then you slow down and regain your breath and keep at this pace for the next 20-25 mins. Now at this point, around 30-35 mins into it, you'll feel some kind of renewed vigor hitting you, this is when you prepare for the high!

When you feel this increase in your energy (your reserves) you go into a hard run, and keep at it! Just keep running fast until you start to get winded, and what I do to really push it is that I actually sprint. Not my fastest omgI'mgoingtobeeatenbyatiger kind of sprint, but even faster than before. Your body will both love and hate you for it, and this is when you hit euphoria. What I've found is that actually the faster I run during this period the better I'll feel. It's really weird. After a few minutes it will peek (That feels @_@) and then fade. When it does, just slow down your pace until you're done with your race!

Well done, you just got high for free, without any damages to your body that regular drugs do to you! And it's legal too!

And to the topic, yes, of course it's possible to overtrain your body, even to the point of which your body starts to cannibalize your muscles for more energy. However that takes some serious effort to accomplish, so you don't have to worry about it, it will burn off your fat way before that.

Some running tips. If you get cramps, eat a fruit with lots of potassium in it, such as a banana, it helps loads. Drink a good bit of water as you'll sweat a lot. Also you'll want some salts as you sweat out that as well. If you are listening to music while you run, I'd suggest you get a good list of tracks with somewhat faster BMP to keep the tempo up. I listen to some really cheesy music that really gets me going. But like, if you enjoy Beethoven with a passion, that's what you should be listening to, of course.
