Every time I take the test I get 5 as a result- and a high score for the 8. Usually I answer that I appreciate willpower and people with this trait. I don't answer that I have strong physical desires, though. How many of you got this result, too?

Mine is usually 5, then 9. 9 is my fix - I have had periods of more and less 9 influence over the course of my life.
I think it's very personal as to what numbers you'll score the highest in - not to mention that depending on how you're feeling when you take the test, you may get different results. 5-4-9 are usually my highest, in that order. But the tests are not known for being very reliable - more like an arrow to point you in the right direction (but even then sometimes they're completely off).
I imagine I might get a similar result if I took a test.
When a 5 is healthy, they start exemplifying qualities of an 8. This is because you know your material, and how to proceed on matters because of that. It gives us confidence and allows us to implement our competency.
Likewise, we'll dislike being controlled, especially when we know that actions we're supposed to follow are incorrect based on what we know.
We work best independently under someone with authority, but who defers to us for our ability to think and analyze, and then accepts our recommendations. In this way we apply our competency, without having to assume leadership or be controlled.
I imagine that it would be a fairly common occurence...
Type 5 and Type 8 are actually fairly closely related as one integrates/disintegrates into the other....Once a 5 finishes his intellectual ruminations, he will execute his plans like an 8 and if an 8 faces hurdles during his active endeavors, he will retreat and restrategize like a 5....There are also many similarities between the two types (desire for independence and autonomy, resistance from invasion of territory, power hungry tendencies, hoarding of resources, etc)....I have prominent traits of both a 5 and an 8 myself...
Not to mention the fact that both are primarily the result of thinking tendencies, but whereas 5 is an IXTX tendency, type 8 is an EXTX tendency
I know I want to be 8 and have certain 8 traits. My type is 5-1-4, so there's no way 8 can appear as a tritype or wing. I can only say it's because I integrate into 8.
