Because why the hell not? XD

So what type do you think the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are?

    *puts thread on life support*

So I came across this interview and found this interesting:

Michael Dante DiMartino: Well, for the first season—Bryan and I wrote all the first 12 episodes together, and really, the process is… part of the process is me and him sitting in a room, throwing ideas back and forth. And then we’ll go home at night and chew on it a little bit more, and usually the next day, when one or the other of us comes in, goes, “Oh wait, I had an idea of that thing we were talking about.” It’s like a ping-pong thing, where we go back and forth and just build on each other’s ideas until we both get to a place where we’re just like, “Yeah, this totally makes sense,” and kind of work out all of the kinks of the story. We try to be as thorough as we can as far as any story holes, so we’re pretty thorough with that.
Sounds like both of them have Ne as one of their top two functions...

Perhaps Bryan is an INFP? I just remember reading a hilarious story about how Mike met him at a Halloween party dressed as an iguana superhero. Also I follow Bryan on tumblr and his blog somewhat suggest INPness. Kind of stumped on Mike though. He seems like the more "professional" and less expressive of the two but I don't know.

I know this is old, but I gave my two cents on this topic in a Legend of Korra typing thread prior (so thought I'd spread the love here). XD

"From appearances, and hearing them speak in a few interviews and behind-the-scenes clips for episodes, my guess is a type 9 (Michael Dante DiMartino) and a type 4 (Brian Konietzko).

    But I really don't know."

[I don't really 'do' MBTI; I know my own MBTI, but find the system complicated. Thus, my typings are in Enneagram form!]

@o0india0o Those sound like reasonable typings. I would guess they have social first or second, since they have a lot of sociopolitical themes in their work too.

That's an interesting insight; I could see Mike and Bryan having SO instincts in them. They understand people and their motives so well; it's unbelievable! The depth, and true-to-form characters they develop just blow me away, and for me, are what make the series so much fun to watch. Just magnificent character development. I feel like I'm a really good people reader, but I'm not sure I could convey with that type of detail, an individuals personality and all it's facets.

They both seem very introspective, not sure if that plays into instinctual variants.

Here is a small blurb of Mike DiMartino discussing his personal feelings about the Legend of Korra season finale on his blog; it might give you a better feel for him as a person:

    Korrasami Confirmed | Mike DiMartino

As for Bryan Konietzko, I feel that he gives off very strong 4w5 vibes (even just from images of him).

& I think it's important to keep in mind that these two worked together, traveled together, and spent an inordinate amount of time together over the 12 years of creating both Avatar series; so in my mind, they would need to be types that mesh well, and balance one another.

Bryan Konietzko comes across as a bit up-tight, anxious, and analytical about his "creative vision", while Mike DiMartino comes across as much more laid back and grounded (perhaps a 9w8).

I'm not a fan of these two and their creative decisions. I hated that Aang didn't murder Ozai for his crimes against humanity, and I hated the way these two ended the Korra series by pairing her with Asami with no advanced foreshadowing of the two of them as a couple. In terms of their creative choices I just think they make horrible choices and have a truly awful way of messaging their stories.

I think Mike might be the Fe user, because he seems to at least want people to understand what happened during the back stage processes and seems more understanding and sensitive to criticism. He is the one I believe who spoke about the animation issues in season two and also spoke a bit about the budgeting issues in season four. So at least there is that. He seems more understanding of fan complaints. Maybe he is an ENTP.

I'm going to put forth the idea of Fi for Bryan. The way he handled Korrasami was just handled so poorly that I think there was some kind of self agenda there. I see a lot of Ne-Fi there, he keeps lamenting about how things "should be" and how he felt the series needed to end with Korra/Asami because they "wrongly" assumed that Nick wouldn't allow it. He wanted it early on but because of his own pre-established ideas he wasn't true to himself and didn't produce it. But once they realized Nick was fine with it, and that they wouldn't care, they did everything in their power to up turn the series and be the first animation team to canonize a lesbian couple. Even at a detriment to the story and narrative content, because Korra had not shown any interest in Asami in pretty much the entirety of the series. He pursued this even at a great cost to the work, and most of the fans of the series that watched from the beginning to the end felt it was a poorly built up romance, and felt it came out of left field and wasn't given the context it should have gotten.

Overall it wasn't a sound narrative decision. He responds to this criticism by saying that the fans should try to stop looking at things from a "hetero-normative" lens (basically change your view point), but doesn't understand that the series itself never lended credibility to Korra being bisexual in the first place until the very last episode. Ultimately his decision came from "times need to change, let's make a statement" over the consistency and artistic merit of property his work.

    Just my two cents.

Guys, let's just keep it to typing and not how you feel about their work. Please.
