Who doesn't love a girl with initiative and intelligence?

'Some say that our lives are defined by the sum of our choices, but it isnít really our choices that distinguish who we are, itís our commitment to them' - Emily, episode 13.

Emily Thorne, very unemotional and detached INFJ

    INFJ Profile

    Nolan Ross, very emotional ENTP

    Victoria Grayson ENFJ

    Daniel Grayson INFP

    Charlotte Grayson ESFP

    Jack Porter ISFJ

    Ashley Davenport ESFJ

    Amanda ENFP

    Tyler Barrol ENTJ

    Satoshi Takeda INTJ

    I love this show!
Emily Thorne- Definitely an INFJ gone wrong. I can see how you would think a T, but she's definitely an F. She is very passionate, manipulative, knows exactly how to hurt or help people, she hates when someone unintentionally gets hurt in the process of what she's trying to accomplish, etc.
Victoria Grayson- ENFJ, once again gone wrong.
    Conrad Grayson- ESTJ
    Amanda- ESFP
    Nolan- ENTP
    Jack- ISFJ
    Ashley- ESFJ

This is not a story about forgiveness and forgetting, being the better person. If it were, there wouldn't be much of a story. In terms of the enneagram, she's 6w5 sx. The best defence is being prepared.

'A conflicted heart feeds on doubt and confusion. It will make you question your path, your tactics, your motives. When you stare ahead and darkness is all you see only reason and determination can pull you back from the abyss' - Emily, episode 16

    STORY GENRES AND ENNEAGRAM TYPES

For me, part of the reason it's so addictive is because it's the complete opposite of reality. How does a person start from being a juvenile delinquent to finding wealthy allies like Satoshi Takeda and Nolan Ross? I did six years of karate for my 1st dan black belt and several years of handgun practice, and my skills are still absolutely abysmal. How does Emily have such good handgun accuracy, without actually taking aim at the target?

Can you tell me what makes you think ENFJ?

I personally believe Emily and Victoria are the same type, and part of the appeal of the show is that the writers keep greying the concept of who's the hero and who's the villain. I think they are extremely evenly matched opponents who both recognize that they are engaged in a huge game of chess.

Both are brilliant strategists (which makes me think NT), both are calculated and willing to go to great lengths to achieve their goals, regardless of who gets hurt (xxTJ). Emily's a little more obviously the introvert, but Victoria always seems worn out by her social interactions...like she bears it until she can finally be alone.

I can see the argument for Emily being an INFJ...certainly her attachment to her father and her childhood behavior points that way. But I also think that there's a difference between having a heart and expressing some kindness and being an F. T's aren't robots, after all.

About Emily, it has noting to do with me thinking that Ts are robots. INFJ is just the logical conclusion in my opinion. The whole show is about her revenging her father's death. Strong Fe, gone a bit haywire, would cause someone to feel so strongly about those close to them. People with Dom or Auxiliary Fe backlash a lot harder on people that hurt people they care about than people who hurt them. Also, she constantly says she doesn't want to hurt Jack, she doesn't want to hurt Daniel, etc. She's constantly thinking about hurting people that she shouldn't hurt and how they're getting involved. Also INFJs have the power of being some of the best manipulators with ENFJs. Us, XNFJs know how to put on a face and conform to make people believe us, thus why XNFJs gone wrong are often very manipulative towards other people. You also have to remember INFJs have tertiary Ti, which combined with dominant Ni can definitely make someone appear to be a thinker (heck, most people believe me to be a thinker). Also INFJs tend not to trust people easily which is obviously seen in Emily's case where she doesn't tell Nolan or Amanda her plans, etc.
Now to Victoria. she sort of has a the same "gone wrong" thing going on that Emily does. Victoria could be ENTJ actually, but I think she's way too extroverted to be an introvert. She's constantly planning social functions, she keeps tabs of everyone who lives in the Hamptons, etc. Also, to tell you the truth I don't believe she's Ni dom. Also, her social interactions are very ENFJish. She's again very good at the manipulation, she puts on a face and talks about people behind their back (which I hate to admit is sort of an XNFJ thing to do); we love to be liked even we don't especially like the person. XNFJs want to fit in with other people, help other people, and overall strive to avoid confrontation. Victoria Grayson may seem like she starts a lot of drama but she never does it to someone's face because she doesn't want the direct confrontation.
So this is my reasoning. If you have any objections feel free to let me know :P.

Your argument is very compelling, honestly.

My only counterpoint is that T vs F are decision making functions, meaning they are most predictive of the criteria/basis for the decisions that individuals make. Although Emily may say she doesn't want anyone to have to get hurt, she rarely makes decisions that promote this goal; and certainly she never prioritizes this. So, like I said, I think it may just be a case of a T with a heart. But, I agree that the strongest argument for Emily being INFJ is her intense attachment and loyalty to her father's memory.

As for Victoria...I'm willing to compromise at ENTJ, but ENFJ still feels like a stretch to me. Granted she does do a lot of emotional manipulation, but why is she doing it? To me, it's not because she wants to be loved or appreciated, it's because she wants power and respect. It doesn't seem important to her to be liked as much as it seems important to her to rule. That's pretty ENTJ to me.

Victoria, ep. 15: One day you may or may not become Daniel's wife, but I will always be his mother.

Victoria, ep. 11: I see a pretty girl with cheap shoes and limited social graces.

Typing for me is not only looking at a person's actions, but the words that they use. Victoria and Emily are similar, but they are are a reflection of the dark side of extraverted feeling, not extraverted thinking, as mentioned by TemptedFate.

T's are certainly not robots, but there is the ongoing conflict between Satoshi Takeda and Emily that she's guided more by her emotions, than the singleminded achievement of her goals, as exemplified in their karate fight scenes.
