Anyone here watch it? It is mildly overrated if I'm going to be critical about it but it's still good nonetheless. Guess the type of the main cast below.

The Crawleys
Violet Crawley
Robert Crawley
Cora Crawley
Mrs Isobel Crawley
Matthew Crawley
Lady Mary Crawley
Lady Edith Crawley
Lady Sybil Crawley

The Staff
Mr. Carson
Mrs Hughes
Mrs Patmore
John Bates
Sarah O'Brien
Thomas Barrow
William Mason
Anna Smith
Daisy
Tom Branson

Discuss . I'll pitch in soon.

Yea Carson is a bit of an ISTJ trope so I agree. I actually think Mary might be an XXTJ. I'm certain Fi is being used but she is too often seen as being cold and aloof so I can't see that Fi as being Dom or Aux. I think a feeler who uses Fi wouldn't feel so conflicted about going with her feelings and inner values. I actually think Matthew could be the INFP though I typed him as INFJ initially.

The Crawleys
Violet Crawley xstj
Robert Crawley - isfj
Cora Crawley - isfj or istj
Mrs Isobel Crawley - esfj
Matthew Crawley - infj, infp could work too.
Lady Mary Crawley - ixtj? I'd really love someone to type her completely. I don't think she's a istj, but intj doesn't fit right either.
Lady Edith Crawley - isfj
Lady Sybil Crawley - enfp

The Staff
Mr. Carson - istj
Mrs Hughes - xsxj
Mrs Patmore - estp
John Bates - isfj
Sarah O'Brien- ixtj
Thomas Barrow - extj
William Mason - ixfp
Anna Smith - enfp or esfp
Daisy - ExFP
Tom Branson - I have a friend who thinks he's intp.

The Crawleys
Violet Crawley-ESTJ
Robert Crawley-hard to tell if he's an E/I, but I'd say either an ISTJ or ESTJ
Cora Crawley - She's more of an extrovert I'd say...ESFJ? She's a bit controlling with how the girls dress and adheres to traditional roles, has a warm and kind personality.
Mrs Isobel Crawley - ESTP, definitely likes to jump in and get things accomplished.
Matthew Crawley - INFJ or INTP. His Ti is well developed but also has a slight amount of Fi so I'd say either of those is fair.
Lady Mary Crawley - ENFJ with a melancholy tempermant or an ENTJ
Lady Edith Crawley - INTJ or ESTP, maybe?
Lady Sybil Crawley - ENFP or ENFJ. Definitely an idealist who likes to make things happen for people. Either ENFP/J quite easily

The Staff
Mr. Carson - Definitely ISTJ
Mrs Hughes - ISFJ, kind and caring nature yet practical.
Mrs Patmore- ESTP
John Bates - INFJ
Sarah O'Brien- ISTJ, hard one to type though she's so conniving.
Thomas Barrow - ESFP or ENTJ
William Mason- INFP
Anna Smith - ENFP
Daisy - ExFP
Tom Branson - ENTJ or INTP, hard to type, he's pretty open with his opinions.

Opening this one up again! I've just finished watching the first and second series back to back.

Lady Mary Crawley, Lady Sybil Crawley, Matthew and Violet Crawley are my favourite characters. I also adore John Bates and Anna, they are such a beautiful pair.

Lady Mary Crawley - My first thought was INFP, that deep down she is very sensitive but puts on a hard exterior. My friends don't like her but she's my favourite character and despite some of the things she has done I still forgive her because I feel like that isn't the real her, that she's putting on a front. It almost seems like she is punishing herself all the time. I've also considered INTJ and ENTJ for her.

Mathew - My first thought was ENFJ.

Lady Sybil Crawley - I've considered INFP, ENFP and ISFP for her. The way in which she expresses her interest in politics and fighting for women's rights seems very Fi to me. I can relate to her a lot.

John Bates - ISFJ maybe? Or INFJ.
Anna Smith - EXFP

Opening this one up again because I love Downton. Anyone watch the Christmas special?

After more thinking I think previous posts that Mary Crawley could be ENTJ are correct. She's actually very quickly become my favourite character. I love Sybil and Matthew too, but Mary just seems to have so much depth to her. Yes she hasn't been the nicest person, but I still really like her, she's not perfect and I think that's what makes her a great character. I also like the way she fights against this expectation of women, she has a strong mind and speaks her mind, which I like.

What do you think?

@umbrellasky I watched the special. To tell you the truth, I was more pleased than I was with the majority of season 2. It's nice to see some closure, but I am very curious to see what they'll do in season 3. The drama-snob in me says not much. I still believe that Mary is an INTJ. I can't see that loud Te in her that ENTJs have and her Fi is apparent enough to not be her inferior function. Typing aside, Matthew and Mary have so much love in my heart that I don't even know what to do with myself. I'll try to contain my creys...

ENTJ for Mary sounds wonderful, though I think Sybil is definitely an INFP. She's very caring and sweet and she's more introverted than her sister Mary (though less than Edith) and she very rarely speaks aloud during dinner. She might be political and a little rebellious but she is soft-spoken, innocent and sweet, even after the war. I can relate to her a lot in terms of how she acts around others and how she is as a person.

I'm only halfway through series 1 but my favourites are Bates, Cora, and Sybil. Mary can be okay at times but her motivations seem at once shallow and far fetched.

Bates: ISFJ (want's to be useful/doesn't want to be a burden/reflective of the past but not very openly talkative about it/strong loyalties to certain people and ideals).
Cora: ENFJ or ESFJ. I'm leaning more toward the N right now but I don't think her character is completely settled yet.
Sybil: INFP! Goodness. She annoys me a lot less than her other two sisters. She's got a good head on her and isn't overly concerned with the stuff everyone else is flailing around about. Big picture thinker for sure. Bit of a quiet activist type. I admire her.
Mary: If she is in fact INTJ then she seems at present less than able to think ahead and plan her own course. At least when it matters she seems to get totally blindsided by events she should have seen coming.

No idea for the rest of the cast so far.

@Elyasis Mary isn't a introvert.
Yes, I was having doubts about that as well. xxxJ is basically all I have on her. I was only mentioning a previous posters guess. In lieu of not having had time to form a guess myself.

Edit: I see you edited ;) Well, I don't like Edith so I haven't given her type a thought. It's not that I forgot her.

The Crawleys
Violet Crawley ESTJ
Robert Crawley ISTJ or ESTJ (probably ISTJ)
Cora Crawley ESFP or ESFJ
Mrs Isobel Crawley ENFJ
Matthew Crawley INFJ
Lady Mary Crawley I don't know. I've considered INFJ, INTJ, ENFJ and ENTJ, but it's hard to type her. She could be a sensor, too... (ESTP?)
Lady Edith Crawley ESTP (I'm not sure if Edith is an extrovert, but she doesn't seem shy or awkward, most of the time. She is sociable and tries to talk to people, and she doesn't seem closed to herself or anything. She might not be your typical extrovert but she doesn't seem much like an introvert to me)
Lady Sybil Crawley INFP (Some type her as ENFP but she fits the typical INFP description 100% perfectly, especially with caring about social justice and rights, being compassionate, wanting to learn, being unable to stay still and do nothing whilst the men are fighting at the war, and of course the wide-eyed idealism - plus, she seems like an introvert to me. ENFPs are often described as being the life of the party and quite wild, and Sybil is really neither, but she seems, at least to me, more like an INFP. This is getting quote long but she seems like an introvert to me even in season 1; she is always so quiet and modest and very soft-spoken).

The Staff
Mr. Carson ISTJ
Mrs Hughes ISFJ or ISFP
Mrs Patmore ESTP and ESFP seem to suit her.
John Bates INTJ or ISFJ
Sarah O'Brien I have no clue. She's difficult to type.
Thomas Barrow ENTJ
William Mason ISFP or INFP
Anna Smith ENFP or ESFP
Daisy ESFP? I'm quite clueless about her as well. She's very gullible and naive, but...
Tom Branson ENTP

i watched an episode and mary seemed like the biggest INFJ 9w1 ever but i guess i could be wrong. it was the episode where some soldier was hurt and was sent to the hospital and mary wanted to by his side or whatever. seems like a good show. funniest part was when the nurse tried to make a girl go talk to the wounded soldier and she said "say nice, warm, comforting things. you don't have to be shakespeare!" i lol'ed

I don't see why it is a problem for Sybill being talkative and at the same time typed as an Introvert. I thought being an Introvert means that interaction drains your energy but at the same time you can still be quite outgoing. I still believe Sybill might be an INFP hahaha.

As for the rest:

The Crawleys
Violet Crawley - ESTJ
Robert Crawley - ISFJ
Cora Crawley - ISFP. I don't know but it seems to me that she's a bit of an Fi user. Maybe I'm delusional :blushed:
Isobel Crawley - ESFJ. That part when she said "I need to work where I am valued" seems a bit of an SJ trait.
Matthew Crawley - INFJ. In season three where he had his vision but had troubles in elaborating seems a bit Ni to me.
Lady Mary Crawley - ESTJ. I see strong Te in her and she seems to be concerned about traditions (SJ trait) And yes, she had some anomaly F moments, which I think could be an inferior.
Lady Edith Crawley - ISTP. She did very well in technical things like driving and critical writing in columns.
Lady Sybil Crawley - INFP.

The Staff
Mr. Carson - ISTJ. I think everybody might agree with this :D
Mrs Hughes - ISFJ.
Mrs Patmore - ESTP
John Bates - ISFJ
Sarah O'Brien - INTJ.
Thomas Barrow - ENTJ.
William Mason- ISFP.
Anna Smith - ENFJ.
Daisy - ENFP.
Tom Branson - ENTP. He had the same vision as Matthew did, but explains it in better ways, engaging people in brainstorming, sounds pretty much like an Ne trait, I think.

It's so interesting to see Edith classified as an extrovert - some type her as an introvert just because she's awkward, but she always longs to be in the spotlight like Mary is and she envies her for that. She wants to be the centre of attention, she's friendly and open... she's definitely an extrovert. I know tons of awkward extroverts; one particular ENFJ who is so awkward she just feels out of place all the time.

#33 ·
I think she's very friendly (F), takes responsibilities seriously (J) and is an idealist (columnist and a bit naive; NF). She wants more attention and to speak openly about things (E), but is always stifled by Violet, Robert or Mary ('thinkers'). Yes, she's a bit awkward when her views aren't appreciated, but who wouldn't be...

#36 ·
Agree with a lot of these, but I think Edith is possibly an ISTP (know your bias, I guess); Sarah O'Brien is some kind in intuition-inferior (from the scene in the first season where she's asked about possible lady's maids, and her mind jumps to the worst possible scenario that she's being replaced; inferior Ne for ISTJ?).
