Hello,

I wonder if were here some A. Dumas' books fans (I am, obviously). Im reading his books these days so much and I want to share with you MBTI types from his books.

Last book I read from A. D. was Ascanio and here is my guess:

Ascanio - ISFP

Benvenuto Cellini - ENTP or ENFP. I rather choose ENTP because he has strong T, but the artistic feeling in him leads me to think of him as an ENFP. Also Keirsey named ENFP as a Champion and Benvenuto is the Champion. He has strong iNtuition, he sees big picture, enthusiast, perceiver (improvisation) and brainstormer. He is also independent. All these speak for ENFP. But he has lack of diplomacy, that's not ENFP like but he is maybe like that because of living in renaissance era. I can't really decide which one of these he two types he is.

Jacob Aubry - ESFP - Extraverted, silly, just wanna have fun. He is the unhealthy ESFP. He used his brain in last 5 minutes when he realised he put down friends.

Colomba - INFJ. Obvious Ni and Fe.

Anna d'Heilly, duchess of d'Etampes - INTJ. Villain. She knows how to manipulate, she wants power and she has it. She can reach everything she wants because the king adores her. But when she fell in love, almost lose her mind.

d'Estourville, Colomba's father - ISTJ

d'Orbec - ISTJ also

Francis I, the king of France - ESTP - Se, Ti

Scozzona - ISFJ

Charles V., the Holy Roman Emperor - ENTJ

Diana de Poitiers - INFP

Cannot say much about other characters in this book because of they were mentioned much less than these. What's your guess?

You can also mention other characters of other books from A. Dumas (The Count of Monte Cristo, La Reine Margot, Three Musketeers, Queen's Necklace etc etc)

What! You admire...?

Yes, him!

Whom do you mean?

The great French storyteller!

Balzac?

No! The other one!

Stendhal?

No!

Scribe?

No, morbleu et ventre-saint-gris! Dumas!

Père ou fils?

The père!

Dumas fan here! Favourites are:
Monte Cristo
, with its labyrinthine plot of murder, theft and forgery; the titanic figure of the Count, the avenger of wrongs, striding through an unjust society, and his own conflict between justice and revenge, compassion and mercy, and the transforming power of love. It has everything a book should have: escapes from prison, dark secrets among family members, murder, poisoners, infanticide, lesbians, and Robert le Diable. Have you seen the TV series with Depardieu?

The Musketeers cycle. The ending of the Vicomte de Bragelonne in particular is genuinely powerful,

with the lonely D’Artagnan falling on the battlefield at the very moment he reads the letter informing him that he has achieved his ambition of becoming Marshal of France
.

It's been a while since I read any Dumas, before my MBTI days. I'm trying to decide whether I should read The Women's War, The Last Chevalier or La reine Margot (in English) or raid Wikisource.fr for an original. Maybe one of those three, maybe another. What are your favourites?

@Elderane, are you interested in opera at all? There are two fantastic French operas you might enjoy: Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini and Meyerbeer's Huguenots (about the Barthélemy, like La reine Margot).
