    Sleeping

Do you feel as if you have been sleeping most of your life? If so, do you feel that you are somehow possible to be awakened? What do you think; what would make you awaken?

Or do you feel as if you will forever sleep, never to be awakened? Do you grasp the transient state between one to another? Do you feel as if you are being more sleepy as the time passes? Are there certain places that will be able to awaken you? Certain conditions; environments; that will make you more awake or less?

Do you think that this feeling of sleeping while awake could be a symptom that you aren't precisely in the place in the world that you ought to be -- to be awakened? Or are there different days in your life time as you feel as if you are feeling more awake than default; or that some days you feel more sleepy?

Do you feel that if somebody else is sleeping like this; even if you don't do it; that you are able to somehow awaken them? If so, how do you think you will be able to awaken them? Do you want them to perceive the world in a more awakened form, or do you want to put them to sleep if you are feeling asleep like this?

I know that my definition of "sleeping while awake" is slightly vague but I have a hard time putting it down in words what I want to say. Hopefully you'll understand what I mean.

I feel most awake when I'm with raw nature, though certain city settings can do it too. But, most of my life is right here in the suburbs, in stuffy houses and spent air. I usually do feel like I'm in a sort of dreamlike state, like nothing is quite real. It's almost like...everything has lost its flavor...its color...its depth.

But, running through a trail on my mountain, through the trees, the bright green, the sounds it makes...or doesn't make. It makes me feel awake again.

I don't understand your lack of logic.

Having feelings and having logic are not mutually exclusive, my friend.

Sorry to go on a tangent (trust me, it relates back to the OP in the end) but what made you change your mind about being type Nine?

I've never been sure of my enneagram type. Anyway, set to unknown now.

Oh well don't change your type on account of me. The topic just reminded me of a particular Nine issue. The way Nines disengage from the world in an attempt to preserve their tranquility and resit influence from the world has been likened to being "asleep to life". In this state Nines are inattentive, forgetful and self-neglecting. They kind of just float passively through life without really taking charge, almost cloud-like.

I think Fives get the feeling they are too awake or over-stimulated and have to withdraw to be able to think clearly. I think the prospect of being "asleep" to life would distress them a lot, they want to remain alert and aware. Most Nines probably don't seriously want to be asleep either when they think about it, but at a deeper level it does tempt them.

Deagalman have you ever heard of emotional intelligence?

*brings thread back on track* =P

I always feel like I sleep too much. Even if I only sleep 5 hours or less (or not at all). But I think even if we could "not sleep", I would do it anyways. It is just too nice to do. I love dreaming, because it helps to process stuff and IMPROVE (keyword for us anyways) yourself.

What keeps me awake is whenever I look forward to something and / or have a project going. Lately I have always slept just 6 hours max. just so I could go to my computer and continue on the game I am making. Not to mention that I always went to bed after a 20 hour-day.

Sometimes it would be cool indeed, if you could skip on sleep. But I am very sure that I would feel very awkward. If they really release that "no sleep pill", I would only take it maybe 2 times a week at max. Not that I'd need it, but unfortunately the body often can't stand being awake as long as your mind can. That's when I end up "being awake" during my sleep. The body rests, the mind keeps going. Had some very nice ideas, solutions, theories and stuff lately during my sleep. Handy (but freakin' awkward).

What else, oh yes. That whole awakening thing, right. You bet I can awaken somebody like that. But I first need to care enough about him / her, otherwise I am not even gonna bother.
And yep, sometimes I do feel like I am "asleep" even when I am not. That's when I start to change stuff again (because it mostly means that my mind is "bored" aka under-challenged).

Nice thread Kys. This is going to be an interesting study. Well, as soon as people stop arguing over (emotional) intelligence that is. =P

You didn't. I've been alternating between different enneagram types before.

Could perhaps be absentmindedness in general. Yet this is how I feel it.

I don't feel awake but I can feel over-stimulated due to high sensitivity; thus I have to withdraw to think clearly.

To come up with a more optimal solution / idea, I sometimes have to daydream / procrastinate / sleep.

    That whole awakening thing, right.

If I am preoccupied doing something ideas might pop up. This requires subconscious daydreaming however.

That's when I end up "being awake" during my sleep.
I've noticed that you get a strange dream / reality disassociation when your body awakes.
