    common stereotypes

okay, well we all know that there are tons or stereotypes out there, so lets post a few and see what we come up with.
some i can think of off the bat is that all Asians are super smart, all British like tea, intj are cold and heartless (so not true, if i was heartless i would be dead, its simple logic people) what are some that you heard of?

    Well, you asked for it:

    • I'm skinny. I'm neither weak nor anorexic.
    • I have OCD. It's not about being a "neat freak," and it's not funny.
    • I'm Asian. I don't have straight hair or tan skin, and I don't freak out about how cute tiny objects are.
    • I'm bisexual. I'm not more inclined to cheat than anyone else, nor am I necessarily hitting on a girl if I compliment her.
    • I'm an atheist. It doesn't mean that I don't have morals.
    • I'm introverted. It doesn't mean that I am unable to keep people company-- I just don't relate to the people at my school.
    • I'm a teenager. I doesn't mean that I'm automatically less mature than someone older, nor does it mean that I listen to only shitty mainstream music.
    • I grew up on 8 Mile. I don't even know what say here, LMAO.
    • I hang out with hipsters and listen to indie music. It doesn't mean that I lack individuality.
    • I'm optimistic. It doesn't mean that I'm stupid.
    • I don't smile all the fucking time. It doesn't mean that I'm angry (well, maybe just a little, but that's not why).
    • I'm a girl. I like sex. Most of my friends are guys. It doesn't mean that I'm easy.
    • I shave my legs. I don't do it just to please men.

Well I can give you an answer to one.

Im english and while tea is ok I prefer to drink hot chocolate, or double choca mocha hehe.

I was actually thinking about this the other day because I heard about the riots in Vancouver and me and my boyfriend both agreed it was "very British" then conceded that "the Canadians are a bit more like us though, aren't they"? Which is a weird thought process, innit?

    Just in terms of violence:
    Brits: hooliganism
    French: FIRE!
    Americans: Guns

These are probably almost true though....why do you never hear about American hooliganism? There must be some!

And I am English and I like tea, but I prefer coffee.

And European stereotypes of the English are different from the American stereotypes of the English, I think.

American stereotype of English (although they will wrongly call them British )
    - posh
    - dry
    - prudish

    European stereotypes of the English
    - crude
    - uncouth
    - drunk

To be fair, the Europeans are fairly accurate with that.

    English stereotypes of Americans:
    - overly emotional
    - prudish
    - right wing
    - fundamentalists
    - highly religious
    - conspiracy theorists/paranoid
    - no knowledge of world geography (or report on international news in terms of "how it will affect us" - see Japanese nuclear radiation!)
    - GUNS!

I'm not saying that's true by the way, that's the stereotype.

^Yeah I know what you mean, it's funny really, on average people in England are a little bit introverted culturally but there are also plenty of extroverts.

It's just that compared to the USA extroverts they seem not so extroverted.

However as far as im concerned people here can be very odd and hard to read, a person in england, at least in my area, seems to go from intense extroversion to melonchonic introversion on a whim.

Something to do with friends and alcohol I think.

I'm autistic and it doesn't mean I don't have emotions or that I don't love people or that I can't speak (though sometimes I lose the ability to speak sense, etc.).

I like to wear make up and shop, but that doesn't mean that's all I think about and it doesn't mean my interest in physical appearance is to please men.

I have strict morals for myself on sex relationships, but it doesn't mean I'm Christian or even religious. My beliefs are based on scientific observations.

I love animals and nature, but I'm not a vegetarian or environmental activist. I support guns and hunting. I'm for animal rights, but don't side with any animal rights groups because I think their ideals are unrealistic and sometimes flat out ignorant of the creatures they're trying to protect.

Whoo, political! Let's try some others...

I spend a lot of the time on the internet, but I'm not antisocial or awkward in RL.

I am quiet, polite, and willing to sacrifice my time and money for your sake, but I'm not a pushover. I give you the time of day because I want to, not the other way around.

I like to laugh and crack jokes in crowds, but I'm an introvert. Or, I'm an introvert, but I don't secretly hate or fear other people.

all people with aspergers are social retards, unorganized, unimaginative, close minded, unable to make a name for ourselves, and unable to stand up for themselves

i find this to be complete bullshit

-I may be a little socially akward and conflict with most people, but that dont make me socially retarded
-Im actaully pretty organized and aware of what is around me
-unimaginative, I call bullshit on this one becasue i know myself to be quite imaginative and i have met a few others who were also very imaginative
    -closed minded, see unimaginative
-Unable to stand up for ourselves is also a load of bull, becasue i have managed fight back many times against people who were rude to me
-Unable to make a name for ourselves is also bull becasue from what i know of Albert Einstein and Bill Gates also have aspergers and maybe Lady Gaga

the annoyance usually has a good reason behind it, but i do see your point if its just constant obsessive nagging, that even annoys me after a while
