What causes low confidence?

Anyway when talking to people about their problems I think a very common root to most issues is low confidence. Many people believe they are unequipped to handle whatever issue is troubling them or they otherwise fear things will end badly if they were to attempt to confront it. But why? The problem is that this lack of confidence is irrational. They are not actually unequipped to handle the problem they simply believe themselves to be so.

I'm looking to figure out why people have this issue. Perhaps through greater understanding of the causes one could better propose a viable solution.

Living a life of abundance starts with our ability to do what is required to reach that goal. Low self confidence is a big hindrance which attempts at realizing life in abundance. As per my perception these are the reasons for low confidence:
1) Fear
2) Guilt
3) Unrealistic Expectations
4) Bad feature of personality
5) financial prospects
6) very less support

I don't think it always has to do with low confidence. I can think of 5 different reasons:

1. They aren't well prepared. No plans, no clear expectations, no clue on how to do it in the right way, etc.
2. They don't want to face the consequences if they fail so they become paranoid of it.
3. They think the result is not really worth the effort.
4. They don't really need it, they just want it.
   
5. They need encouragement.

Eh, don't think lack of confidence as the only bad thing. Personally, I think I have so much of it that it scares some people away :/.

I can't really give an answer for why people would feel low confidence. I, personally, never really felt that way before, unless you consider my perfectionist tendency to be a type of low confidence.
